Dutch

How do I get the dutch part working. It is easy to translate english to dutch but where can i locate it. Do i just have to change "en" into "nl"?

I would recomend first to look for the interest within the nl community. Withou a seedling in nl community you cant create a new Wikiversty. You have to attract people to this and probably also prepare some concept. Than you go to meta and deploy there a request: meta:Requests for new languages. Read it, because you have to fullfill some points. You can incubate your project where you like, but I recomend to Wikiversity Beta. Than just fullfill points set by Language committee and set al dutch pages to NL category. As you can see, there are already some pages, so if you will do it elswhere (such as Incubator) import them there. So let me summarize it:

1. Ask the community for their interest (less then 5 interested people is a problem)
2. Start to incubate Dutch Wikiversity (e.g. on Wikiversity Beta)

I saw what you did. We first need to ask to the other the whole international Wikiversity community if they allow us to create a Dutch Wikiversity. I am a bit negative about the practise of Wikiversity at the moment. There is little organized. I don't know how things will be on a very small Dutch Wikiversity. "I couldn't care less"

Which is proper: I could care less or I couldn't care less? There is a dinner at stake.

"I couldn't care less" is proper. Just think through the logic of it: If you do care, then you could care less, right ? However, if you don't care at all, then you couldn't possibly care less. StuRat 15:16, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

I believe the phrase "I could care less" is an abbreviation of the sarcastic response (to any statement): "AS IF I could care less" - which indicates the speaker in fact could NOT care less.

However, when the phrase is shortened to "I could care less" (to imply even more snide indifference?) it actually means the opposite, that the speaker does care at least somewhat, as stated by StuRat above.

So I would recommend a statement of unambiguous clarity: "I couldn't care less." ~ dinazina

"I could care less" is a common idiom used for decades.[1][2][3] As a colloquial or slang term, it is probably not acceptable in formal writing, but has been a part of speech since at least 1960. 1 Billion Hungry people

The way I understand it, there are two main reasons for hunger.

1. Hungry people are poor, and so someone else has to pay for the food
2. Hungry people are not centralized in one place, so the food has to be distributed and transport becomes a major expense especially in countries that have governments that refuse transport for various reasons.

The best planned food programs come up against these two problems time and again, there isn't enough money to buy enough food to feed everyone, and even if there was, it is often impossible to get the food to the people who really need it. Recently, Government attempts at distribution have played into the hands of the less interested governments, with the result that in many cases, the food has got to the country, that needs it but not to the actual starving people.

To add insult to injury, countries with more poverty, tend also to have more population, which means that the number of people who are starving is increasing faster than the worlds food supply. In the cases of natural disasters and disease, often the number of starving children outpaces the adults that could deal with food even if it arrived. Consider the signs that have started showing up that ask people not to feed street children in AIDS affected areas of Africa. It indicates that the extended family that formerly supported many children has broken down, and the street kid population is growing despite the best attempts of NGO's. If people in their own country and government are refusing to feed them, the street kids will find other ways to feed themselves which will increase the spread of disease. It is partially because of Survival Sex, sex used to buy food, that AIDS keeps spreading. There are places in Africa where it is still believed that if you have sex with a virgin you can cure AIDS. This is dangerous in a disease that has a high re-infection rate, and which can be carried for 10 years before it becomes symptomatic. Just about the time that the child becomes a productive member of society they begin to die of Aids. So AIDS means that we will have to feed more than one generation of children before the country involved can get back on its feet and begin to support itself. Food might be the cheapest way to limit the spread of AIDS, but then, that assumes that the world wants to limit the spread of AIDS.--Graeme E. Smith 01:32, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

You mentioned overpopulation almost as an afterthought, but it's really the core issue causing hunger. That is, there's too large of a population in a given region to survive on the food that grows there (at least in bad years, like say during a drought). Thus such populations will continually be in need of aid. Reducing the population to a sustainable level that can always be supported by the land is the only realistic solution. Birth control is unlikely to work, as, in those cultures, they feel a need to have a dozen kids. Thus, I propose exchanging aid for sterilization. That is, either they agree to be surgically sterilized (or chemically, if we can find a permanent pharmaceutical solution), or they starve. Either way, this will prevent them from having a dozen starving kids, who in turn will have 144, etc. You might argue that this is cruel, but which is more cruel, allowing one person to starve today or 12 in the next generation ? Birth control is effective when people actually use it. Birth rates are below replacement levels in some populations in Europe, for example. However, the problem is that the populations with the fewest resources still breed like rabbits. That's where forced sterilization comes in. If we don't do that, then we do get wars over scarce resources. StuRat 13:18, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

China uses a tax-policy and it works very good. So, sterilization is not needed. The problem with sterilization is that it could lead to violence. When a tax-policy enormously reduces the population, people still have the ability to make children.Daanschr 13:36, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

I wouldn't say it works "very good" (and not only because it's poor grammar, with "very well" being correct grammar). They've only managed to reduce the growth in population. What do you mean "rapid decrease in population" Sturat? I just want to know what do you mean on that sentence. Slowing the population growth is barely demonstrated here in the Philippines. There still many women carrying babies. I traveled anywhere in the Philippines to observe the population and it's increasing in great velocity. I mean there are too many newborn babies and the population is increasing quickly. I don't know in other countries if its populations are also increasing.

I already defined what I meant by "rapid decrease in population": a 50% reduction per generation. China's one-child policy has only reduced the growth in population, which is better than nothing, but nowhere near sufficient to get the population down to a sustainable level before it has catastrophic effects on the ecology and economy of the Earth. If China actually did limit EVERY woman to only having one child (say by sterilization after the first child is born), then that would meet the target. I will not for a nano second believe that financial incentives don't encourage sterilization. If you offered, say, $2K for reversible sterilization, I believe people would be lining up around the block. How about in India? Is the "one child policy" demonstrated there? India has a huge population and less food production. People in India are struggling because of overpopulation, I think the government must know this. Also, there are too many people jobless. The population of India is growing faster, at 1.578% per year, than in the US, at 0.883%, even after the effect of immigration is considered: [4]. However, even if we figured that the US had a 1% faster population growth rate, it would still take some 120 years to catch up with the population of India. US mothers have 1.8 children (from memory), meaning the US is a leading nation in population reduction, but, yes, the US is growing because of immigration, and men now out-number women because of the nature of immigration. The term is "emigration", which means people leaving a nation (versus "immigration", which means people arriving at a nation). And yes, it can work as a "safety valve", by relieving population pressures which would have led to "natural population control" via war, disease, starvation, etc. Of course, eventually the whole world population may be up to a level where that happens everywhere. While i don't disagree with the relationship between overpopulation and poverty/hunger, we may need to consider the contribution of corruption and misappropriation of public resources to the sorry state the world's poor are. A country like Nigeria can not be called overpopulated if the national income and available resources are placed side by side with the number people; but what do we have, a country which where more than 40% are hungry (Unable to afford the universally accepted dail;y food ration expected of a normal human). Food aid (except in emergencies like Drought and Disasters) are not the solution, Transparency in governance and proper management of resources is the solution. The Developed countries seem to enjoy abetting (either overtly or covertly) the raping of the economies of the poorer countries by their leaders; maybe the fact that most of the funds end up in American/European financial institutions could be reason. If we can leave corrupt leaders with no hiding place for their loot, i think the resources to feed the poor of the world will remain in their countries. <Comment added by User:Mallamibro on 09:57, 7 February 2010>

I should note that w:Obafemi Awolowo was given credit for such quotes as "All is fair in war, and starvation is one of the weapons of war" during the Biafra famine, and was recently given a glowing eulogy by Kofi Annan and laid to rest with high honors as a shining icon of competent government administration. So far as I know the Biafrans remain desperately poor (as policies from that time rendered them, having seized their assets) and are among those hungry people. While I agree that we shouldn't allow corrupt leaders to hide their stolen loot in the West, that won't stop them from stealing it. They can always find somewhere to hide money. I imagine China would be more than happy to take investments from corrupt, even genocidal, governments. They seem quite happy to deal with Sudan, for example. And removing those corrupt governments from power would require war, and nobody seems willing to that, either.

So, what to do, then ? I like the approach of simply bypassing the corrupt governments. If you give those governments money to spend on development, they steal it all. If you give them food and equipment, they sell it and steal the money. So, instead, we should spend money on projects where there is nothing left for the government to steal. For example, dig a well in a poor village. It's hard to steal that. Of course, they might take control of the well and charge people to use it, but the little that poor village could pay probably wouldn't cover the cost of the guards. That said, perhaps some governments are so corrupt they wouldn't even allow a well to be built unless they get a huge bribe. If the corruption is that bad, perhaps we had better leave that nation to it's fate (probably a bloody revolution) and find some other developing country where we actually have a chance to help. Haiti, poverty, overpopulation, and the disaster

I commented here before, and I am often afraid to state the obvious, but the proof was on the front pages of US papers for months: it is clear that overpopulation amplified the suffering in the diaster may many factors. When the American church people came to take kids to an orphanage they set up in the Dominican Republic, and got arrested, the upshot was that Hatian parents, or perhaps women, where having up to a dozen children in hopes one would make it to America to become a capital resource.

I have read that something similar is true in Africa. Families have up to a dozen children hoping one will stay to take care of the parents when they get old: a perverse form of social security.

I believe that a restoration of native life supported by modern social science, which includes nutrition (such soy beans) and birth control (such as latex) is the longevity solution for the Human Race.

Problem in moving discussions

How can I move/paste a discussion to "List of debates and discussions" page. I am about to propose a debate for everyone.

In general, you'd do a text cut-and-paste. That is, highlight the text to move, do a Control X to cut it, save that page with a comment saying where you're moving the text. Next go to the new page, edit it, do a paste with Control V, then save with a comment on where the text came from. If the old page is now empty, then you might also want to request that the page be deleted. StuRat 15:43, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Converting Radio waves into D.C Electrical energy

Isn't that what a radio does ? A normal radio just receives enough energy from the antenna to pick up the signal, which is then amplified using either batteries or electricity from a wall outlet. A W:crystal radio, on the other hand, is entirely powered directly from the energy of the radio waves. However, if you're talking about broadcasting enough energy to power something in the range you describe, you might be interested in the work of W:Tesla, who attempted that very thing. But, it's both dangerous (since anything which works as an antenna, like say some unfortunate person's fillings, will spark and get hot) and financially impractical (both due to inefficiency and the lack of a way to bill for broadcasted power). An alternative might be to power your item by W:electromagnetic induction. This is used for recharging batteries on some portable devices, but does require that the device be close to the charger (typically sitting on top of it). If you describe your application in more detail, perhaps I can customize my suggestions further. StuRat 13:55, 25 December 2009 (UTC)

Let me take a guess at your application. I'm thinking of a portable walkie-talkie or phone powered by the signal it receives from the base unit, as opposed to using batteries. Here are some problems I see with that approach:

1) Range. The range you would get would probably only work within a house. Still, that might be useful.

2) Interference/damage to other devices. Other receivers for that frequency (TVs and radios) would likely be overloaded with the strong radio waves that would be needed, which might destroy them, even if they were off at the time. All receivers would need to be removed from the house.

3) Government regulations. Those radio waves might also damage your neighbor's devices, so are typically illegal at such power levels. In the US, this is regulated by the W:FCC. One way around this would be to build a W:Faraday cage around your house to block the radio waves, but that would cost thousands of dollars and look hideous.

4) Possible health consequences. Use of such powerful radio fields may also be harmful to human health, such as causing cancer. The jury is still out on this issue.

An alternative might be to use a much lower power system where the portable units are receivers only, working like a crystal set. It would need to use earphones, since the volume would be inaudible otherwise. Perhaps an LED light could also be powered by the radio waves, to tell you when it's receiving a message, so you wouldn't have to keep the earphones on all the time. Still, if you don't have the headphones on or notice the light, you could miss the message. What type of one-way messages could you send ? Maybe "Pizza's here, come and get it !". I think the asker is asking about how to convert stray radio energy into usable electricity, perhaps to harness such energy to charge a cell phone. It seems all you need are some tuned coils, some diodes, and some capacitors. I've seen plans online before. Then you could make an array of a number of these. It would be totally passive, and I don't see how it could cause active interference. The 2012 phenomenon

Nostradamus has made a prediction about the incoming apocalypse due to occur on December 21,2012. Well for me, I'm not sure if that's true but I'm very concerned about it. I would wish his prediction on the apocalypse would be inaccurate but I don't think it will be inaccurate because he has made many accurate predictions. For example, he predicted Hitler's Rise to power, the fall of Napoleon, the Great Fire in London and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Now, he predicted the end of the world. Fortunately, W:Nostradamus was an idiot. Among his many endeavors was a claim to be able to interpret Heiroglyphics, which was a total fraud, and a claim to be able to heal those with the Plague, which didn't work at all. His predictions were so numerous, undated, and vague that they could be said to predict anything that happens. The problem is that they aren't actually predictive. That is, nobody reading his quatrains before the events would have thought they "predicted Hitler's rise to power, the fall of Napoleon, the Great Fire in London and the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki". It's only by looking back at them after the events, translating and interpreting them in bizarre ways, and ignoring parts that don't match, that they can be forced to mean whatever you want them to mean. As for his predictions of the end of the world, he actually said that would happen when the Mongols invaded Europe. Well, the only thing left of the Mongols (outside of Mongolia) these days is pretty much the occasional W:Mongolian Barbeque (and that's really from Taiwan). StuRat 20:02, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Yea, that "Mabus" crap is a good example of what I mean. And why would he have listed the name backwards, anyway ? That just doesn't make sense. Why would he be deliberately obscure ? No, he said the 3rd Anti-Christ would somewhat come this year. Some people say it's Obama or Bin Laden. For my part, I choose neither because Obama is loyal and a responsible president while Bin Laden is a terrorist leader but he cannot be interpreted as an Anti-Christ. Yeah, you're right, Sturat, why would Nostradamus reverse the name of the 3rd Anti-Christ? Is it because he tries to be solemn? Or is it because he is an alchemist? Don't know. He may predicted the two Anti-Christs but the name is mistaken: He says "Hister" instead of Hitler and "Nalpan" instead of Napoleon. It doesn't make sense. I can't copy the site, Sturat. Problems in wind energy

It could be abundant, endless and cheap and it could be the best alternative renewable energy ever discovered. But the problem is the correct place to put windmills to work. Windmills must be put to a place where wind is always present so that it will generate electricity. But the places where the wind is always present is far from cities. Winds are likely to be present beyond the countryside, in forests and other non-populated places. If you're town is not visited often by winds and you're building a little windmill (anemometer-like instrument) at your house, it could be useless. Building little windmills are easy but takes time. Also, good judgment is needed, which means you got to decide carefully to build a little windmill. Especially in a situation like this; Your town is visited by winds, but not often (let's say thrice a month) You can't just build a windmill right away in that situation, it takes you a lot of time to build a single little windmill and it will cost you more resources. I know what you mean. Continuous, strong winds sufficient for power generation only exist in a few places. So, the two issues are the long-range transport and storage of electricity:

1) Long range transport is of course possible, but is expensive, causes energy losses along the way, and can be bad for the environment, especially if the power lines run above ground. Another solution to this problem is to move the customers to the power supply. Factories might be built near wind farms, for example, or new communities could be built around them.

2) Storage is also possible. Electrical storage in batteries doesn't work very well, but conversion into other forms of energy, like gravitational potential energy, can store energy for long periods until it's needed. Brain sharpening

I just learned this brain workout in [7]. But I got a question, Does the sharpness of the brain permanent and keeps on forever or it just fade away and just lasts a day?

Is this supposed to be a biography (that is, factual info) ? If so, start with some basic info like full name, date (and location) of birth, parents, siblings, ethnicity, where they have lived, what schools they attended, which college degrees they have, what courses they teach, awards they have earned, if they are married, any kids they have, etc. Then you might want to branch out to hobbies, their teaching style, mannerisms, how they dress and speak, etc. Also, did (s)he tell you to write about him/her ? Cold feet

I have a question, does cooling your feet during sleeping time keeps you awake?

Broad names on narrow lessons

This is not to single out the comparative law and justice project, it's just the example I happened to get my eyes on, but are pages like The United States and Iceland correctly named? If they are, how does it work exactly? Can they become part of other projects later, and any current focus on comparative law become just part of the pages' history? Or will those names just be taken, and not available to someone who wants to do, say, "Let's help eachother learn as much as possible about Iceland" or "Comparative history of music by country"? The world gets even more hotter

The world is dramatically becoming hotter. No one will ever listen to us anymore, they won't listen to us because they say it's not true and it will never happen. Global warming is worsening El Niño and makes it more devastating in the Philippines. The El Niño is affecting every part of the Philippines. Food production is slow and water supply is decreasing. Is there any word that people will listen to the environmentalists and help save mother Earth? Eventually, they do not. As we can see more and more people are using automobiles or other gas-driven transportations than manpowered bikes etc. The summer last year was only a bit hot. You can only drink a 220 ml water and you feel cool. But now, it becomes doubled and makes people desperate to have a drink. I'd say that, at best, we can slow global warming. Stopping it would require a 90% reduction in population and giving up all technology. That's not going to happen. So, we should look for ways to live on a new, warmer Earth. This may mean that a good portion of the population needs to move inland and toward the poles. Fortunately there's lots of land in Alaska, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, Canada, Greenland, and Antarctica (although that last one needs a political settlement before it can be populated). People probably don't listen because "global warming" has become media hype and some places are getting cooler rather than hotter. Use of "global warming" to describe the effect is seen as being wrong by people that think the temperature isn't getting hotter where they live. Some people use the alternative term "global climate change" for this reason. Similar to how "Swine Flu" in the US starting being referred to as "H1N1" so people that had panicked over the name and had stopped eating pork could easily understand that there was no danger in catching the flu by eating pork. Another consideration for why people may be ignoring it is that temperatures go through cycles where for decades there can be colder or hotter than normal temperatures which critics can point to for dismissing the environmentalists conclusions that man is somehow responsible for the earth getting warming. -- darklama  23:25, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Actually, human error is making things bad. It's quite clear that man is responsible of global warming. Using automobiles and illegal cutting of trees or deforestation is worsening global warming. Fuel cells may not help global warming at all, depending on how the fuel is obtained and whether it contains carbon. Even hydrogen fuel cells tend to cause the release of CO₂, when the hydrogen is produced using energy from conventional sources. Only nuclear, solar, wind, hydroelectric, etc., can be used to produce hydrogen without producing burning carbon dioxide in the process. However, there's still the CO₂ produced when those nuclear plants, solar cells, windmills, dams, etc., were constructed. Every individual can help by planting trees and minimize their use of electricity and their automobiles. The problem is, electricity usage cannot be minimized in particular places. Why? Let's take an example, Palompon, Leyte (my town). Most business here are internet cafes, that means my town consumes more electricity and we need it a lot. But it's not only Palompon but other towns as well consumes more electricity. While cities are using more electricity, it also overworks the nuclear plants which more harmful gases are produced and makes the greenhouse gases thicker, and while the greenhouse gases are getting thicker, they absorb more heat and that makes Earth warmer and warmer. 1) The Internet uses a tiny amount of electricity, when compared with home electrical heating and A/C.

2) Nuclear plants don't produce any greenhouse gases as a result of operation. They do produce a small amount of radioactive waste, but that's solid. The gas you see coming out of the cooling towers is just water vapor. Nuclear plants do produce greenhouse gases during construction, but then so does every other technology.

The problem is that they keep insisting on "perfect world" scenarios, where solar cells and windmills would solve all our energy problems. But can't your approach be one that also can have irrational motives (for some people, if not for you) being appealing as "realist" and at the same time offering a technical solution rather than lifestyle changes? Have everyone who speaks for it really looked into numbers or done deep consequence analysis? I'm not sure that I have the knowledge and time to try to debate this thoroughly with someone who has some technical knowledge (and I'm not really sure this is the place for such a big debate), but it is certainly my understanding that there are still some pretty serious problems with nuclear power (uranium mining still being a pretty dirty industry and probably problematic to make cleaner, for one thing) and that it's actually not only more or less uneducated or extremist "perfect world" environmentalists who are arguing against it. To give a non-perfect world alternative, I would think it's probably better to look into responsible but relatively large-scale development of hydroelectrics and biofuel, keeping in mind their effects on the environment and trying to minimize them but recognizing from the beginning that they will be there. It should also be noted that - still in my limited, non-specialist understanding - it doesn't really seem likely that one solution alone can solve all problems (including energy savings through technical solutions and lifestyle changes together). This can work as an argument (a valid one though also a bit desperate and one I would probably not agree with in the end) for nuclear power - "we need every bit we can get our hands on" - but I don't think it's constructive to argue in a way that could possibly be taken, even if not quite meant so, as "this could all be solved so easily with nuclear power if only those pesky environmentalists would get out of the way". Yes, we should conserve energy, too, but, unless we could stop using energy altogether, the source of energy will continue to create greenhouse gases.

The majority of our electricity should be nuclear, with a small portion coming from other sources. Decommissioning old nuclear weapons and reprocessing the radioactive material is the way to go, and President Obama recently announced just such a program for the US.

There are problems with hydroelectric (flooding huge areas, destroying archeological treasures, interfering with fish and animal migration, etc.). But, where the dams already exist, that damage has already been done, so we might as well get the benefit now.

Switching existing farms to grow new biofuels makes food prices skyrocket, as it did with ethanol grown from corn in the US, and also uses large quantities of diesel fuel, a greenhouse gas (biofuels themselves are also greenhouse gases). Creating new farms to grow them, as is being done with palm oil, also causes global warming due to deforestation and burning of existing trees. Used biofuels (like old cooking oil) can be useful, but, like solar and wind, can only provide a tiny portion of our total energy needs. StuRat 12:51, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Solar panels

Solar panels remain quite inefficient at converting sunlight into electricity, with the best being around 20% efficient, when new. However, passive solar power, such as using sunlight to heat air or water, is more efficient. Also note that the efficiency at converting sunlight to electricity isn't the only factor. If solar cells could be made cheaply, the inefficiency wouldn't matter for individual homeowners, as they would just cover their entire roof (and maybe exterior walls) with solar cells until they got enough energy. It's more of a problem for large-scale solar energy production facilities, though, as they would then need to buy up more land to cover with solar panels, and this would lead to complaints from environmentalists who wouldn't like so much land dedicated to that. Hi! What have you tried so far? I looked up your user name on each of those three sites and there was nothing there. Of course, that could just mean you haven't created a user page on any of them yet, which as far as I know shouldn't cause problems. What you need to do is go to Special:MergeAccount, and then just follow the steps. The only problem you might run into is if someone else has the same user name on another Wikimedia site, but you'd still be able to merge your account; you just wouldn't be able to use it on that site. Adding new material to Wikiversity

Hello. I am quite new to Wikiversity and have never uploaded anything. I work for an elearning company and I have recently started looking at getting more open sourced resources on Wikipedia nd its sister projects. I work mostly with business and finance education so I have uploaded one trial book to Wikibooks to see how this works. It is licensed under the Creative Commons and GNU and I have added it to Wiki Commons. I am working on transferring this .tiff data into Wiki Text with some help from Wikibooks. How can I make this information also available in Wikiversity? In addition, I am interested in getting the links for these free online texts on Wikiversity so that students can access a greater number of titles.

Actions of Toddst1

Hello, I would like to shed light on that actions of an administrator by the name Toddst1. While at one time he was true to the wiki project, he has now put the wikifoundation at major risk, as I have noticed that he provides false info - mostly slanderous - on living peoples bio's, he pushes his POV which is far right and can be viewed as hate speech. I comment on here as I have asked Toddst1 to justify his actions - in good faith - which led him to abuse his admin powers and block my account. Thus this is the only forum in which I can address this major breach of conduct and trust. Could someone please investigate as Toddst1 actions have placed wiki at major legal and financial risk. We are relatively new users and don't know the protocols for dealing with vandalism to a page. Our page Moral Obligation to Be Intelligent, The was vandalized by User:Adamwestsalad. We're not sure how to restore the pages to undo the vandalism or how to deal with the vandal. Moving subpage from either user space or to different titled page

Is there a 'move command' that allows either a page on my user page or one I've already created to be moved to 'article space' or another title so that in one case user space page remains in case needed but old titled subpage automatically deleted (assuming that's a good thing) after move to new subpage title? Autoconfirmed users (4 days after registration) may move pages, it's the Move command, available under a down-arrow to the right of the Watchlist star at the top of the page in the default skin. Only custodians may suppress redirects, the normal Move command will leave a redirect. If you are the only editor of a page, or the only substantial editor, you may easily request page deletion, and that includes the deletion of unneeded redirects. Just place, say,

{{delete|redirect not needed, author request --~~~~}}

“ the text font is very small ”

Cite:Video template for Wikiversity

uploading SWF files

Unfortunately flash files cannot be uploaded to any Wikimedia project because Flash isn't considered an open format. -- darklama  13:54, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

TOC Options

I wanted to use {{w:TOC limit|limit=2}} to set the nesting level of the TOC in my course, but it seems this template, created for wikipedia, is not recognized by Wikiversity. How can I limit the TOC level in a Wikiversity course? Thanks! --Lbeaumont 17:19, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Navigational Aids

I want to include a course navigation aid at the bottom of each subtopic in my course What Matters. For example, at the bottom of the page on courage I want to show the predecessor as Virtues Development and the successor as Love. I copied a template used at the bottom of the Wikipedia page for a congressman (see below) but it would not work on Wikiversity. I can probably do this using a standard table, but I prefer a more compact format.

You might want to keep management of course navigation simple by listing all the subtopics instead of just the previous and next. If the topic order is ever updated that approach is much easier to update than the previous/next navigation. For example:

Using the “Education Level” and “Guide to Non-formal education” Boxes

I have created the Category “Applied Wisdom” and linked it under the “Non-Formal Education” node. This seems to be working well, as it appears in the “Guide to Non-formal Education” box and the Category Hierarchy itself. I also use the “Education Level” (non-formal education) box on the resource page itself. See, for example, the Virtues course. The problem is that the individual courses (e.g. Virtues) also appear uncategorized in the Guide to Non-formal education box. What am I doing wrong? I am not offended by these. Have you ever sat under a professor who singles out and bullies students for their political or moral beliefs, docks their grades, and yells hate speech at them most of the time? In comparison to that, the use of the words is not offensive, but used as metaphors for growth and change. In addition, look at the images on Wikipedia. There are various images depicting various adult practices, and nobody is calling on their removal. Professors use strong language at times to make points. Just recently, a professor was arrested after screaming there was no God, yelling profanities, and running around nude. How do I host courses on here?

Where do I go to post entire courses on here? I don't mean just single pages, but collections of pages in their own section? I've looked all over and cannot find a place to add new content, particularly not which can be lumped in its own section.

I am trying to promote a new philosophy on an issue. It is a very simple one, but most fall over it, and most of the education needed is to contradict everything they learned that stops them from seeing the simplicity of it. Now, I read the policy that this is not a soapbox. If what I am doing it not possible or allowed here, are there other online learning sites that let outside teachers come in and host materials? Perhaps in more of a solo arrangement? Or how could I launch my philosophy in a way that fosters understanding, learning, and participation?

Now one other thing is that this is all original research, and a bit non-politically correct. There is a group of people who are actually part of the mainstream community, but who get lumped in with people of nonstandard sexualities despite having what most in the small group classify as a birth defect. It is not even medically proven as such, but that is what those most affected believe. They just want the same vanilla American (or wherever) Dream, not to be pushed into a ghetto and mischaracterized as a sexual minority, when their true allies are in the Mainstream community, their allegiances are mainstream, their beliefs are mainstream, etc. Nothing about them fixing their lives and conforming to the mainstream culture is about sexuality nor gender variance at all. The whole idea of doing all that work is to stop being different, stop living a lie, and embrace their true mainstream nature, just as a member of the correct gender of two. Years ago, people started fetishizing their alleged medical condition and turned it into something objectionable and vulgar, and now those people want to gain control of my people. The solution to the above is so simple, actually, and I can teach it. However, most will be original research. I hope that would be allowed.

How can we keep people from sister projects (Wikipedia) from coming to my course, bullying, outing people, using coercive influence over consensus, making sock puppet allegations, and anything else to try to censor the views that my courses would help others to explore? They seem so threatened by the ideas presented, and if people are threatened, then that is more of a reason to discuss them. Basically, it is about a minority group with views incompatible with Mainstream thinking using bully power over an even smaller minority group, to stop that group from having Mainstream acceptance and to force them to have loyalties to the larger minority group instead. Our people transition and fix their lives not to challenge status quo, but to assume it and live it. And a minority group that outnumbers us 10-100:1 is threatened by us. Other times, they feel sorry for us and try to do things for us, without our consent, for our own good.

Okay, I drifted a little. So what would be the best way to start a course that showcases and explores how the smaller minority group is really a part of Mainstream culture and not a part of sexual and gender variance culture? What would be the best strategy and the best venue for this? I've used Wordpress, and that is not interactive enough nor gives the opportunity for learning projects. Displaying Artwork

In a Wikiversity course I am developing I want to display the image Sky and Water I, as it appears in the Wikipedia article Sky and Water I. The Template:Artwork template, used in the Wikipedia article is not recognized by Wikiversity. When I try to use the [[File:]] link, the file name is unresolved. LoginIn Troubles

hey not sure where to post it but Im really desperate right now. I was just finishing and article for your site and clicked on "save page" suddendly there was something going wrong. I was logged out and all my texts not online the one I was working on right now seemed to be gone. I couldnt remember my password and used the "forgot login" button to get a new one. Tried it and they asked my to change it ...it did that but nothing worked. I now tried it three times in a row and kept the password from the last mail as "new" password but nothing works. Mobile wikiversity not working on android

Hi I am new to this so maybe I am missing something, but every time I try and access any wikiversity site on my android phone it comes up with the Missing Wiki page. Even if trying to access en.wikiversity.org. I think the page might be being redirected to a mobile version, something like en.m.wikiversity.org/...

Is the problem just me / my phone or is there a major problem accessing wikiversity from all android phones at the moment? Is there a way to stop it redirecting me to the mobile site (for now) so I can still view content on my phone even if they are deigned for desktops?

Script errors

Perhaps it is just on my computer but very near the top of this page is script error. I've also been getting these since yesterday whenever I edit a page. Navigation Template looks poorly now

The navigation template at the bottom of each page of the course What_Matters does not look correct now. It used to be in a box shaded a pale blue color, but more importantly, the title of the navigation template (What Matter) is now overstricken. What has happened and how can this be repaired? The immediate cause is the name parameter in the {{Navigation}} template. That creates a navbox of some kind, and the navbox code adds a link to the talk page, and that link is floating left instead of floating right. It appears that other styles are also broken, as the {{Archive box}} now floats left instead of right. I checked recent edits and didn't find anything obvious. I suspect it's in a CSS page somewhere, but I'm not sure where those are or how they are accessed. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 22:31, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
