Questions

edit

To learn about strategies to mitigate the risk includes improvement of risk literacy and access to the open educational resources for everyone is necessary to reach people that are exposed to risks. I see Wikiversity here at the interface of organisational capacity building PorOne fits all approaches do not work in general and especially not for educational resources. Wikiversity Learning Resources allows the alteration, remix adaptation to local and regional requirements and constraints. So geospatial aspects are relevant for educational resources as well. It would be great at Wikiversity evolves in a way, that we can attach Open educational resources to a specific geolocation. The Foundations for that are in place. If you look at the if you look at article of the United Nations Building VIC in Vienna, valuable see on the upper right corner the latitude and longitude of the building on the globe. Tools like Mixare use that information through webservices to place digital information that make reference to geolocation where the user is. Now thinking terms of the open education resources: for example going to the Niagara Falls we could enrich the geolocation with additional information,

  • video from a helicopter,
  • looking into the past: the first snapshots of the location from beginning of photography,
  • Open Literature, open poems, that refer to the geolocation,
  • mircoscope views about the aquatic life, (e.g. Wikipedia:Daphnia_magna)
  • how will the Niagara Falls evolve in next 100000 year as projections in the future, (e.g. GIF-animation/video)
  • how does the place look in Winter, Spring, Summer, Autumn, ... temporal aspect
  • ...

Games P0K0M0N G0 (commercial objective) and other examples show, that we are on way to enrich real environment with digital information (e.g. like, gaming, advertisments by "TwoogleBook et. al.", travel guides on mobile devices, ...), all these approaches have one thing common:

Instead of sitting in front of Desktop Computer with internet connection, the mobile device supports you, to interact with the environment you live in!

Just apply that principle to a learning resource for yourself in the region/location where you currently are!!!

If you're living in Antarctica research station then it doesn't make sense to inform the researchers about malaria risks. If you're going on holiday to the Kruger National Park, then risk mitigation information is helpful about the use of mosquito repellent, Mosquito nets or take malaria prophylaxis.

Use-Case Vision for Wikiversity
edit

My vision for Wikiversity is, that we are able to place learning resource as teachers to specific geolocation and have something an Open Source MediaWiki Browser structural equivalent to Mixare that allows learners to retrieve Open Educational Resource that a relevant to their CURRENT geolocation.

Forking of Educational Resources as Vision for Wikiversity
edit

One fits all learning resources do not work from an educational perspective. Teachers must tailor the open educational resources to the requirements and constraints of the group of learners. Even if the language doesn't change, learning resource had to be adapted to the social, cultural and regional needs of the learner. The learners have knowledge and skills about the region they grew up or live in. We have more success with a learning resource, if we can refer to that skills and build on that knowledge the learners have about their environment, their community, etc.. Forking of content development of learning resources seems to me as key element to cover those needs. The regional adaptation of learning resource (tailor OER to geolocation, mentioned above) is just one tailoring factor, keeping different strains of content development in parallel development branches. This means, the principles of forking, known from version control is essential for this adaptation of learning resources. We as a community of teachers should be aware about the technological options and we could leverage the potential of ubiquitous mobile devices especially in developing countries for capacity building and learning.

added a learning resource for geolocated OER --Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 05:33, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The global challenges like Climate Change and the Limit of Growth for our planet is another global driver for using open capacity building and learning, which finally could help us to "save ourselves on this planet earth".

Create Wiki Books tailored to the learners

edit

Question: Is it possible to provide the feature wiki book creator in Wikiversity too (print/export submenu in Wikipedia)? This will be helpful to create tailored learning resources in Wikiversity as well! --Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 18:00, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Categories
edit
  • Bert, why you don't use categories in your articles? See, for example, Green Open Access. -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (discusscontribs) 03:12, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you, Andrew, for that hint about categories, did not have that on my "screen" to much, will take care of categorisation of learning resouces much more in future. I was just careful in the beginning, not to increase the number of categories if it is not necessary. Categorisation is a helpful guidance for learners to get the big picture of a learning resource, so a bit more work at my end is necessary to have a good support for learners on that regard.   Support --Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 05:24, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thank you, Bert, for your reply! And I have one more question.
Course Development
edit

Personal question.

--Bert Niehaus (discusscontribs) 17:50, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Learning Resouce about the creation of geolocation aware learning management that includes

  • creating, advancing, using IT infrastructure, that is needed for the learners to use nearby learning resources in Wikiversity (may include esp. App development)
  • support teachers and authors in developing learning resources design that target learning tasks that involve physical interaction with a specific geolocation (DONE partialy of it is Open Educational Resources/geolocated OER and Dynamic Document Generation, if geolocation is provided in the learning resources (geolocated tailored OER). This will be fantastic evolutionary step for wikiversity learning resources in general, not only for my background.

Piloting Wikiversity Use-Cases

edit

My students in Germany are taught in German, so will work on course in German to evolve my skills in using existing learning resouces and expose myself to benefits and limitations in specific use-cases. The OpenSource multiplatform tool PanDocElectron approaches the use of Wikiversity from use in a lecture at a university. Transitions from

  • presentations in lecture with manual comments on slides,
  • slides with recorded audio comments and
  • blended learning are analysed with Wikiversity learning resources

Due to the lanuage constraints the pages in Mathematics are created in German for that pilot, see

  • Slides Demo, press (F) for fullscreen, (C) to make manual comments on slides and (B) to have a blackboard for each slide with additional comment, e.g. collect e.g. during brainstorming session with students in lecture.
  • Wikiversity Source for Slides, with PanDocElectron this source was imported from wikiversity and cross-compiled into a RealJS presentation in 2 seconds.

The code of PanDocElectron is really aweful in terms of software design principles, it was just a rapid prototype needed for a proof of concept. A sound UML design of PanDocElectron is necessary for refactoring of the code, nevertheless is was helpful for me to learn about these concepts in my own lectures. I major result the first phase was, that Wikiversity should regarded as an Educational Content Sink from which other products for learning and teaching are generated from. Even the tools itself are not integrated in Wikiversity (e.g. the menu on the left), the use-cases have implication on content design of the single wikiversity page (e.g. a amount of text in each section of an PanDoc-SLIDE document or a required geolocation to allow a nearby selection of Wikiversity learning resources by http://www.geonames.org/ only Wikipedia mentioned, a request might integrate Wikiversity in the future if authors become more aware about the possibilities).

Feedback to Boris: Heterogeneous Expertise of Learners

edit

created a learning resouce Heterogeneous Expertise of Learners of this comment

I might be wrong with that conclusions, but nevertheless I tried to answer the linked comment of Boris as good as I can.

Interesting! Needless to say, I wish you and Wikiversity every success on this road. Boris Tsirelson (discusscontribs) 18:17, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Berts Conclusions about this page

edit
  • (++) minor questions like asking about Categorization by Andrew trigger re-thinking of my current workflows in creating content,
  • writing feedback and capturing current ideas that directly come up, when reading a question or comment was for me valuable as note-taking to come back to (+), but it creates sometimes poor structure of arguments for readers (----) or for people who asked the questions (refactoring nessary).
  • (+++) These question help to evolve as an wiki author.

  •   Support - After a review of his experiences, I found he was a very expertized person to manage mathematics & computing problems behind Wiki-commons' regular online-behaviours. To be honest, I was someone who wasn't good at mathematics. If you ask me some questions about 'The Well-Tempered Clavier', or note's time and value..., I may say some; but about finance, systematic calculation or Fuzzy Mathematics of big Date in daily life... oh, it would give me a big headache... I only knew how to contribute myself in my fields... As a common teacher LIVE ONLINE, hopefully, through this type of people's professional works, we can be liberated out from mathematics and only focusing on our own fields. Hopefully, Wikiversity can leave us a more easy-going, convenient, eco-friendly operation-interface in the future. We can have this confidence. Thanks! Give a 'Support'! Jason M.
