According to the review, the NSF consists of: i. chitosan (as a capping agent to stabilize the nano silver); ii. nano Ag and iii. fluoride ions. The capping agent could be different from product to product [1]. On the other hand, I found out the concentration of the Ag and F in NSF is very low.
- chitosan = 28585 ug/ml = 28585 ppm (the concentration is not enough to have significant effect to inhibit bacteria);
- Ag = 376.5 ug/ml = 376.5 ppm (the concentration is generally too low to significantly inhibit bacteria although it also depends on the release of Ag+ ions with respect to time)
- F = 5028.3 ug/ml = 5028.3 ppm (it is rather low to have significant remineralization if it is topically applied with a microbrush on caries lesion.
It is helpful if the authors can address my concern.

1- Abstract
- In the conclusions you mentioned that NSF has superior properties. On the other hand, you mentioned in the same paragraph that (currently there is little clinical evidence to support…..). Please explain.
- Please check some letters that should be uppercase.
2- Introduction
- In the 4th line you are talking about metal ions. They can’t be referred to as “newer” , specially that you mentioned the use of silver in dental amalgam which is very old.
- Please add a reference that explains how silver has anti-rheumatic potentials.
- Please add a reference to the last sentence in the first paragraph.
- In the last paragraph you compared NSF with SDF and amalgam. How is this relevant although amalgam is a filling material?
- You mentioned that NSF is available as a yellow solution. Please clarify if it is commercially available or only available by preparation in the lab.
3- Mechanism of action
- Please correct the word “SNF" in the title.
- Please clarify how does capping agents affect the ability of inhibition?
- Please add a subtitle on the effect of NSF on dental tissues before the paragraph of “action of SNP on tooth molecular level”.
- Please add a reference to the mentioned paragraph.
- Please move the paragraph of “anti adhesion property…” to be before the paragraph of (capping agents).
4- Applications of NSF in dentistry
- In number “3” you mentioned PPF fluoride based varnishes. Please clarify what is PPF.
- The paragraph that starts with “the present study effectiveness of NSF” needs restructuring as the intended meaning is not clear at all. in addition, referring to the study as "the present study" is confusing.
- The “NSF containing sealants” title is not accurate as you only mentioned a study that added nano silver, not NSF.
- The second paragraph under that title is not relevant as it is about NSF varnish.
- In number 8, what was incorporated? NSF or SNPs? please modify the title and the paragraph according to your answer.
- In addition, the subtitle (8i) is unnecessary
- In number 9, please modify as in number 8.
- In number 10, please add (GTE) in the paragraph to relate to the title.
5- Drawbacks
- In the last paragraph, you say “ no experimentation has declared the long term stability” although you mentioned earlier “ in the abstract” that it is stable for 3 years. please clarify.
6- references
- Please revise references # 5,6,8,9,10,12,13,15,19,20,21,23
