Heading casing

edit

FYI, the recommended Wikiversity heading style uses sentence casing. For example:

Self-determination theory rather than Self-Determination Theory

Here's an example chapter with correct heading casing: Growth mindset development

Hello, I found your chapter to be very interesting! Iv'e found a past book chapter which also discusses the Dark Triad (2020). It may be useful to add this to your ‘see also’ section :) --U3202315 (discusscontribs) 19:37, 17 October 2021 (UTC) https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Motivation_and_emotion/Book/2020/Dark_triad_personality_and_emotionReply

Topic development feedback

edit

The topic development has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing the chapter plan. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Topic development marks are available via UCLearn. Note that marks are based on what was available before the due date, whereas the comments may also be based on all material available at time of providing this feedback.

  1. The title is correctly worded
  2. The sub-title is correctly worded and formatted
  3. Capitalisation of the title has been corrected to be consistent with the book table of contents
  1. Used effectively
  2. Description about self provided
  3. Consider linking to your eportfolio page and/or any other professional online profile or resume such as LinkedIn. This is not required, but it can be useful to interlink your professional networks.
  4. Link provided to book chapter
  1. Summarised with indirect link(s) to evidence
  2. A briefer summary would be preferable
  3. Add direct links to evidence. To do this: View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click "compare selected revisions", and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see Making and summarising social contributions.
  4. Use a numbered list
  1. See earlier comment about Heading casing
  2. Basic, 2-level heading structure - could benefit from further development to expand the focus on the target topic (DT -> motivation)
  1. Basic development of key points for each section, some relevant citations
  2. Overview - Consider adding:
    1. an evocative description of the problem and what will be covered
    2. focus questions that are more directly aligned with the target topic (see the sub-title)
    3. an image
    4. an example or case study
  3. For sections which include sub-sections include key points for an overview paragraph prior to branching into the sub-headings
  4. Use bullet points per Tutorial 1 - Using Wikiversity
  5. This chapter should integrate embedded links to relevant parts of the dark triad and emotion chapter and the light triad chapter. Similar, embedded links from those chapters should link to relevant content in this chapter.
  6. Strive for an integrated balance of theory and research
  7. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters.
  8. Consider including more examples/case studies. Rather than the Machiavelli example, how about a more contemporary, relatable example of each of the DT traits and motivated behaviours that are supported by theory and research?
  9. Conclusion (the most important section):
    1. under developed
    2. what might the take-home, practical messages be?
    3. in a nutshell, what are the answer(s) to the question(s) in the sub-title and/or focus questions?
  1. A figure is presented
  2. Caption uses APA style
  3. Caption could better explain how the image connects to key points being made in the main text
  4. Cite each figure at least once in the main text
  1. OK
  2. For APA referencing style, check and correct:
    1. capitalisation
    2. italicisation
    3. doi formatting
    4. separate page numbers by an en-dash (–) rather than a hyphen (-)
  1. See also
    1. Select only directly relevant links
    2. Also link to relevant book chapters from previous years
    3. Also link to relevant Wikipedia pages
  2. External links
    1. Excellent

Suggested section: SD3

edit

Hey there, very interesting topic and I can't wait to see it further developed! A suggestion for a section you could include could be SD3; I haven't done any research into it or your topic but it seems to be a short measure for the dark triad of personality traits. It could be interesting to talk about how these traits are measured? Here are some potential references if you decide to add in this area of study: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01639625.2017.1421120 https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1073191113514105?journalCode=asma https://asset-pdf.scinapse.io/prod/2129015869/2129015869.pdf Good luck! --Ashley Sanders01 (discusscontribs) 05:10, 13 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Chapter review and feedback

edit

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Chapter marks will be available via UCLearn along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

edit
  1. This chapter is notable for its thoughtful, critical approach to the topic and search for creative, practical solutions to the "problem" of the dark triad.
  2. The chapter is rich theoretically, but lacks sufficient coverage of research.
  3. Addressing the topic development feedback could have helped to improve this chapter.
  4. For additional feedback, see the following comments and these copyedits.
  1. Well developed, basic overview.
  2. Clear focus question(s).
  3. A case study could help to help engage reader interest.
  1. Relevant theories are well selected, described, and explained.
  2. The chapter doesn't wander off into discussion of irrelevant theory.
  3. Independent thinking and understanding is evident.
  1. Appropriate depth is provided about the selected theory(ies).
  2. Key citations are reasonably well used.
  3. Tables and/or lists are used effectively to help clearly convey key theoretical information.
  4. Some useful examples are provided to illustrate theoretical concepts.
  1. Overall, this chapter makes insufficient use of relevant psychological research.
  2. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.
  1. Critical thinking about theory is evidenced, but not in relation to research findings.
  2. Some claims are unreferenced (e.g., see the [factual?] tags).
  3. When describing important research findings, include more detail about the methodology (e.g., sample, measures) and results (e.g., size of effect or relationship).
  1. The chapter places more emphasis on theory than research.
  1. Well developed.
  2. Clear take-home messages.
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the chapter is reasonably well written.
    2. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
    3. Avoid directional referencing (e.g., "As previously mentioned"). Instead:
      1. it is, most often, not needed at all, or
      2. use section linking.
  2. Layout
    1. See earlier comments about heading casing.
    2. Sections which branch into sub-sections should include an introductory paragraph before branching into the sub-sections.
    3. Avoid having sections with 1 sub-heading - use 0 or 2+ sub-headings.
  3. Grammar
    1. Check and correct use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs individuals').[1].
    2. The grammar for some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags). Grammar-checking tools are available in most internet browsers and word processing software packages. Another option is to share draft work with peers and ask for their assistance.
  4. Proofreading
    1. Remove unnecessary capitalisation (e.g., Dark Triad of Psychology).
  5. APA style
    1. Use double (not single) quotation marks "to introduce a word or phrase used as an ironic comment, as slang, or as an invented or coined expression; use quotation marks only for the first occurrence of the word or phrase, not for subsequent occurrences" (APA 7th ed., 2020, p. 159).
    2. Direct quotes need page numbers.
    3. Figures and tables
      1. Refer to each Table and Figure at least once within the main text (e.g., see Figure 1).
    4. Citations are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. If there are three or more authors, cite the first author followed by et al., then year. For example, either:
        1. in-text, Smith et al. (2020), or
        2. in parentheses (Smith et al., 2020)
    5. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation[2].
      2. Remove < > from dois
  1. Format bullet-points and numbered lists, per Tutorial 1.
  2. Good use of embedded in-text interwiki links to Wikipedia articles.
  3. No use of embedded in-text links to related book chapters. Embedding in-text links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
  4. Good use of image(s), with excellent captions.
  5. No use of table(s).
  6. Very good use of feature box(es).
  7. Basic use of quiz(zes). Ideally, maybe three questions could be used - one for each of the triad components.
  8. Good use of case studies or examples.
  1. Unnumbered, last minute social contributions with indirect links to evidence, so unable to easily verify and assess.
