Hi,

Found this resource that may be helpful.

https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/the-british-journal-of-psychiatry/article/implications-for-psychedelicassisted-psychotherapy-functional-magnetic-resonance-imaging-study-with-psilocybin/65960EEBE9984AF5CD24F4E42449FACC

Also think it makes a really interesting point about assisting psychotherapy, which could be interesting to discuss if you have a history or applications section in your chapter.

Hello,

Content is look great so far. Don't forget to check your references, you will need to italised the journal articles name. Check APA guideline to be sure. It is something that can easily be missed since wikiversity does not automatically italicised the section for you.

Here is an interesting review on Psychedelics conducted recently which you may find of interest/useful.

Heading casing

edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Hi,

This is a really cool topic. Have you looked into the differences between organic psychedelics and synthetic psychedelics and what affect the two different types have on emotion? is one better than the other? Here is a link for an overview of synthetic psychedelics and their affects on the body. https://deserthopetreatment.com/synthetic-drugs/hallucinogens/ --JaydenG3 (discusscontribs) 10:32, 1 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I think you'll find this useful.

Long-term use of psychedelic drugs is associated with differences in brain structure and personality in humans: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0924977X15000097

Good luck!

Suggested structure

edit

Hi,

I noticed that there is currently limited research on how emotion is affected by psychedelics. So a good way to discuss the effects on emotion would be to indirectly discuss them by discussing their effects on condition that effect mood an emotion. For example Idell et al., (2017) proposed that "psilocybin can alleviate deleterious changes in the brain caused by chronic stress leading to restoration of homeostatic brain fibrinolytic capacity leading to euthymia." This touches on how increases in BDNF levels increase in the hippocampus can decrease the stress hormone level of those with depression. You could talk about how this decrease in stress hormone expression would impact the emotional experience of those with depression. Similarly Patra, (2016) discusses psilocybin can be used to treat those with treatment resistant depression, you may be able to discuss how the removal of depression will effect them emotionally.

Patra, S. (2016). Return of the psychedelics: Psilocybin for treatment resistant depression. Asian Journal Of Psychiatry, 24, 51-52. doi: 10.1016/j.ajp.2016.08.010

Idell, R., Florova, G., Komissarov, A., Shetty, S., Girard, R., & Idell, S. (2017). The fibrinolytic system: A new target for treatment of depression with psychedelics. Medical Hypotheses, 100, 46-53. doi: 10.1016/j.mehy.2017.01.013

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Awesome work so far. Know that it's getting late, but thought an interesting thing that you may want to include may be how culture shapes the experience of psychodelics.

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this is an excellent chapter that successfully uses psychological theory and research to help address a practical, real-world phenomenon or problem.
  2. Overview - consider building on the sub-title by presenting focus questions to help guide the reader and the chapter structure.
  3. For additional feedback, see following comments and these copyedits.
  1. Relevant theories are well selected, described, and explained.
  1. Relevant research is well reviewed and discussed in relation to theory.
  2. Excellent emphasis on major reviews, meta-analyses, and experimental studies.
  3. Critical perspective evident.
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is very good.
    2. Use third person perspective rather than first person (e.g., "we") or second person (e.g., "you") perspective[1].
    3. Avoid one sentence paragraphs. A paragraph should typically consist of three to five sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. The chapter is well structured, with major sections using sub-sections.
    2. The Overview should not have sub-sections (now fixed).
    3. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  3. Learning features
    1. Excellent/ use of embedded interwiki links to Wikipedia articles.
    2. Excellent use of embedded links to related book chapters.
    3. Use in-text interwiki links, rather than external links.
    4. Good use of images.
    5. No use of tables. A table could be a good way to summary features of different psychedelics.
    6. No use of feature boxes.
    7. Excellent use of quizzes.
    8. Very good use of examples.
  4. Grammar
    1. The grammar for some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
    2. Use serial commas[2] - it is part of APA style and generally recommended by grammaticists.
  5. APA style
    1. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numerals (e.g., 10).
    2. Direct quotes need page numbers.
    3. Figures and tables
      1. Use APA style to refer to each Table and each Figure (e.g., do not use italics, check and correct capitalisation).
      2. Refer to each Table and Figure at least once within the main text (e.g., see Figure 1).
    4. Citations are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. A serial comma is needed before "&" or "and" for citations involving three or more authors.
      2. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
      3. In-text citations should be in alphabetical order.
    5. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. See new doi format.
  1. ~15 logged, useful, social contributions with direct links to evidence
