Heading casing

edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings (or sentence casing). For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

To do this: View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click "compare selected revisions", and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see Making and summarising social contributions.

Section headings

edit
  1. Reconsider use of "Darwinian"; topic focuses on "evolutionary"
  2. See earlier comment about Heading casing.
  3. Basic, 2-level heading structure - could benefit from further development.
  4. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an overview paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.

Key points

edit
  1. Perhaps consider the argument that humans aren't designed to be happy and the pursuit of happiness is a cultural fabrication based on a "cult of the self".
  2. Basic development of key points for most sections, with relevant citations.
  3. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles and/or to other relevant book chapters.
  4. Consider introducing a case study in the Overview.
  5. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  6. Consider embedding one quiz question per major section.

Image

edit
  1. An image (figure) is presented.
  2. Caption uses APA style.
  3. Caption could better explain how the image connects to key points being made in the main text.
  4. Cite each figure at least once in the main text.

References

edit
  1. Good.
  2. For full APA style:
    1. Use the new recommended format for dois - http://blog.apastyle.org/apastyle/2014/07/how-to-use-the-new-doi-format-in-apa-style.html - instead of login/paywall links

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this chapter does a reasonably good job of applying psychological theory and research to a real-world phenomenon.
  2. This chapter is well under the maximum word count, so it could go into more depth.
  3. For additional feedback, see following comments and these copyedits.
  1. Relevant theory is described and explained.
  2. Could be covered in more depth.
  1. Some relevant research is discussed.
  2. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  3. Greater emphasis on major reviews and/or meta-analyses would be helpful.
  1. Written expression
    1. Overall, the quality of written expression is very good.
    2. Use active rather than passive voice[1].
    3. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
    4. The chapter would benefit from a more developed Overview, with clearer focus question(s).
  1. Layout
    1. Avoid having sections with only one sub-section.
    2. Sections which include sub-sections should also include an introductory paragraph (which doesn't need a separate heading) before branching into the sub-headings.
  2. Learning features
    1. No embedded use of interwiki links to Wikipedia articles. Adding interwiki links for the first mention of key words and technical concepts would make the text more interactive.
    2. No use of embedded links to related book chapters. Embedding links links to related book chapters helps to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
    3. Basic use of images.
    4. No use of tables.
    5. No use of feature boxes.
    6. No use of quizzes.
    7. No use of case studies or examples.
  3. Grammar
    1. The grammar for some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
  4. Spelling
    1. Spelling can be improved (e.g., see the [spelling?] tags).
    2. Use Australian spelling (e.g., hypothesize vs. hypothesise; behavior vs. behaviour; fulfillment vs. fulfilment).
  5. Proofreading
    1. Remove unnecessary capitalisation (e.g., Western Society).
  6. APA style
    1. Numbers under 10 should be written in words (e.g., five); numbers 10 and over should be written in numerals (e.g., 10).
    2. Figures and tables
      1. Refer to each Table and Figure at least once within the main text (e.g., see Figure 1).
    3. Citations use correct APA style.
    4. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.
      2. Check and correct use of italicisation.
      3. See new doi format.
  1. ~1 logged social contributions without direct links to evidence
