Doctor who runs a newsletter abouth medicine myths edit

Hi, There is a doctor who runs a newsletter abouth medicine myths. He shows with proofs and articles why some myths are just that: myths. I received his newsletter but then I cancelled the subscription because I was receiving too many e-mails (not from him but in general). I need to obtain some info I had read in the past. I cannot remember his name. Do you have a clue who this doctor may be? As I said, I need to re-read one article by him... Thanks so much, Leonardo Cardillo --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 08:49, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Leonardo T. Cardillo: I did a quick search and couldn't find an answer. I cross posted this at w:Wikipedia:Reference desk/Science which has a larger number of people following the forum. They might be able to help. --mikeu talk 15:08, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other things I remember: he runs a couple of sites as well, he accepts donations for his contributions. One I was suscribed to hi newsletter... is there any way I can trace it from that? Also: tha man is about 60 years old... the name of the site is one or two words... It makes me crazy I cannot find that on Google...!! --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 16:09, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

There are several sections... one of them is about reiki... when a doctor is banned from his profession, it is announced on hi site as well... --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 16:09, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mu301 and Mikeu: https://www.quackwatch.org/ is the site I was looking for, as you wisely commented somewhere else here on Wikiversity. Thanks so much!! --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 16:18, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiversity in LinkedIn edit

https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Main_Page

Why Wikiversity is not recognized as a Unversity by LinkedIn? I tried to mention in my profile my Swedish studies but LinkedIn will not find this University. Who should I contact to make the change happen? --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 16:34, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikiversity:What Wikiversity is not. While Wikiversity is an educational website it is not a degree granting institution. --mikeu talk 16:51, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Even in that case, why cannot it have its LinkedIn page? --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 17:26, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Capacitors on Electrical Filters edit

Do all electrical filters require at least one capacitor? --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 22:22, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Passive electrical filters do but active electrical filters may not. --Marshallsumter (discusscontribs) 23:32, 26 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you!! How do I obtain the link to this exact section (Capacitors on Electrical Filters) of this Page? --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 17:25, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I have noticed someone has recently added the links to the Section Titles. Thanks a lot!! The link I was looking for therefore is: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Wikiversity:Help_desk#Capacitors_on_Electrical_Filters --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 23:38, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WordPress blog automatically inserting the date of its last modification edit

How to make a WordPress blog automatically insert the date of its last modification? --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 17:33, 27 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-last-modified-info/ However, this required a Business account, right? --Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 02:46, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

List of articles that I read edit

To keep a list of the books I read, I use GoodReads. To keep a list of the movies I watch, I use: https://letterboxd.com/ To keep a list of the music I listen to, I use: https://rateyourmusic.com/

What do you suggest to keep a list of the articles that I read?

--Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 18:59, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Let's say you've read the article on Wikipedia w:Electronic filter to find out that passive filters use capacitors and that an active filter may not. You could keep track of this article using the WikiData item number d: Q327754. --Marshallsumter (discusscontribs) 02:52, 29 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Leonardo T. Cardillo: if you mean articles on wikiversity you can use your W:WP:watchlist, or simialrly if you participate in any other wmf project such as wikipedia. I don't think there is a global watchlist, but I am not sure. Is that what you meant when you said "articleS" or did you mean newS articles? Ottawahitech (discusscontribs) 16:12, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Marshallsumter: @Ottawahitech: Thank you for your responses. By Articles, I mean Articles on any webpage, not only on Wikipedia or Wikiversity.--Leonardo T. Cardillo (discusscontribs) 06:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

COVID-19 edit

I am trying to learn and share as much information as I can regrding COVID-19. I came across this article:

10 Ways Scientists Can Help During The COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic https://www.forbes.com/sites/farahqaiser/2020/03/24/10-ways-scientists-can-help-during-the-covid-19-coronavirus-pandemic/#79fe6f5aa901

and was wondering where I can find a list of "your local public health authorities".

Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (discusscontribs) 14:47, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ottawahitech: Have you tried the Google COVID-19 page? -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 15:15, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

State of Wiki Collective edit

There are links to new programmatic functionality for servers in the wiki collective, cloud hosting, and in the test areas. (I can find the links if necessary). Do any of the programming environments available allow Wikiversity users to run servers or programs, or access machines or engines? I'll take a look at it soon and thought about asking in advance. My programming skills are moderate, so if someone can explain what is there to see, I will appreciate it. Another related question is: has anyone tried to run Wikimedia instances on virtual machines for experimentation? I want to know the correct way to understand what is on offer. Some of the offers seem very narrow in focus and clarity could require a lot of scaffolding within Wikimedia operations. Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks! Brett Johnston (discusscontribs) 12:05, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Brett Johnston: It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. For the Wikimedia server world, see mw:Wikimedia Labs. For Wikimedia access, there's mw:PAWS. For a cloud-based IDE, there are many, but my favorite is http://repl.it . I have not tried to run my own wiki server, but there are instructions linked from the main page at MediaWiki. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 13:24, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the links @Dave Braunschweig:! I am currently watching a YouTube video on installing a Wiki from Wikimedia: "Using A Self Hosted MediaWiki As A Private Documentation Server with Visual Editor" [1]. That checks one idea off. I'll check out those links too. Brett Johnston (discusscontribs) 04:10, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

CompEx training edit

I want to get in touch with people who have passed the CompEx training and are willing to share their knowledge on that with me. Can Wikiversity help me on that? Thank you, --Leonardo Tomás Cardillo (discusscontribs) 12:44, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Leonardo Tomás Cardillo: Welcome to Wikiversity! Wikiversity can help you with this, but the subject of CompEx hasn't come up before. I just created CompEx for you. You are welcome to use this for your study notes, and to use the talk page there to discuss exam preparation with others. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 16:24, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Dave Braunschweig: There is already a Wikipedia Compex page. --Leonardo Tomás Cardillo (discusscontribs) 16:41, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Leonardo Tomás Cardillo: Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Wikiversity is more appropriate for what you have asked to do. See What is Wikiversity and What Wikiversity is not. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 17:09, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Small question... it's been a while since I've seriously edited to WV. Feels good to be back... but I've forgotten some of my basics.

How do I make my title page in italics, such as in w:The Prince? —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 16:48, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Atcovi: Try something like:
{{displaytitle|title=<span style="font-style: italic;">{{FULLPAGENAME}}</span>}}
Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 19:13, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear
{{DISPLAYTITLE:''{{FULLPAGENAME}}''}}
is simpler and has identical output. —Justin (koavf)TCM 01:44, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Gladly appreciate it. —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 03:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to Merge User Accounts edit

Sorry all if this in not the right place for this conversation, but where would I go to merge a user account. I have been semi-active through this account on Wikiversity, but I recently have been more active in another user account (IanVG) as I am trying to be more consistent in my username across all platforms. Is there page I could be redirected to with more information about this process?--Ivangiesen (discusscontribs) 16:18, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Ivangiesen: It is not currently possible to merge user accounts. The best you can do is put either a notice on both accounts or a redirect on the "retired" account. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 16:51, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a chart -- a family tree -- to a page edit

Hello, I'm writing for help because I can't make a chart work on a regular WV page.

It does work in my Sandbox on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Scogdill/sandbox&redirect=no#Family_Tree

It doesn't work on the WV page: https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Social_Victorians/People/Schreiber#Family_Tree

The two charts are not identical, as I took out some of the tags to simplify the chart so I can see exactly what's going on. The chart in my Sandbox on WP has a few more things going on. I copied the basic structure from somebody else's Sandbox page that showed up in a search, so perhaps that's it?

The error messages on the WV page suggest it's looking for some template pages that don't exist yet. So maybe I need to declare something earlier on the page somehow? Or maybe {{chart}} doesn't work on WV, though the Help pages suggest it should.

I bet I'm just missing something basic, but I can't see what it is. I've read every Help page that seems relevant. Maybe I've missed one, but probably I'm missing something basic and just can't see it.

Thank you for whatever you can help with! :) Scogdill (discusscontribs) 19:57, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, en.wv does not have all the same templates as en.wp: this is the problem. —Justin (koavf)TCM 22:04, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scogdill: What Justin didn't mention is that templates may be imported and you can request this at Wikiversity:Imports. The Chart and Tree chart templates are now imported. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 17:35, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my goodness, you all are great. Thank you so much! I'll try again. :) Scogdill (discusscontribs) 23:44, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It works perfectly! https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Social_Victorians/People/Schreiber Thank you! :) Scogdill (discusscontribs) 23:50, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
