Possible goals for 2013

This is probably more than a bit presumptuous on my part, but I have started a discussion at w:Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Religion#Goals for 2013? in the English wikipedia asking what if any sort of goals we might be able to reasonably set for the next year, in wikipedia and other WF sites as well. I figured the wikipedia probably gets more attention, which is why I started the discussion there. But I would be very interested in seeing any input regarding what the editors here think might be the areas here most in need or meriting additional attention. Maybe, and at this point it is just a maybe, maybe we might be able to get some input on such topics if we have some idea what it is we really need to work on. Anyway, I would welcome any input anyone here might have. John Carter (talk) 19:58, 4 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Discussion of the Topic:Religious studies needs contributors. No one has contributed since October 2009. Generating contributors is a goal.
  2. There are a few courses like A Course in Miracles. Generating more courses is a goal.
  3. Religions and their followers and contributors impact science and its followers and contributors. Doing more to delineate this is a goal.
  4. The reverse where science and religion are concerned is also a goal.
  5. A lecture/article on Religional astronomy or Religion in astronomy/Astronomy in religion is a goal.
  6. Studying the dominant group and its impact on religion is a goal, as is the reverse. --Marshallsumter (talk) 22:11, 7 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A Google translation of this gives "I want to order advertising you where to write?", but I don't know what to answer. Mikael Häggström (talk) 07:22, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review from external entities

I've made an entry in beta Wikiversity talk:Research guidelines about peer review from external entities. I'd like us to reach a consensus regarding what quality level is required on the various steps of peer review verification in order to justify the inclusion of a previously unpublished work in Wikiversity. Additional comments are welcome. Mikael Häggström (talk) 07:30, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This topic may fit under the Portal:Wiki_Scholar. I would describe it as abandoned. You're welcome to adopt that portal for your purpose! Brett Johnston (talk) 03:30, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion
I've added "peer reviewed articles" as potential content of such a journal. Mikael Häggström (talk) 07:05, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Education use only files

The loss of SOHO files from commons brings home the problem of uploading to commons for educational and original research uses here. Do we have licenses here such as used on Wikipedia so that we can upload needed images here without going through commons? --Marshallsumter (talk) 02:39, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have uploaded the image File:Messier 74 ULX.jpg for use in the lecture/article X-ray astronomy, and possibly elsewhere, to replace the version deleted at commons. I checked the non-commercial use license while uploading and wrote under "Licensing" the appropriate information. Please let me know if anything else is needed or if a specific license designation needs to be included. The NASA portion is public domain and the NOAO portion is non-commercial/education use only. --Marshallsumter (talk) 23:25, 21 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The file needs a copyright template. WMF policy (which we cannot change looally) is that we cannot use files unless commercial use and alterations are permitted. If they are, you can label the file as CC-BY-3.0. If not, you should be able to get away with fair use, meaning that the file is copyright but is irreplaceable so reasonable useage is allowed. However, you would need to defend the use on the image's page. Have a look at {{Fairuse}}.--Collingwood (talk) 22:26, 24 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for commenting. I have added the Fairuse copyright template and some additional information from an external source addressing some of the uniqueness of this particular ULX in the article X-ray astronomy where the image is used. What do you think? --Marshallsumter (talk) 21:35, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sahar, welcome to Wikiversity!
Arabic is wide open for development of more learning resources.

Welcome Sahar! I encourage you to be bold! Find something that jumps out at you needing attention or development and just dive in. As you get ideas, you'll need to look around for examples in existing pages to learn how to implement the idea. But the best approach is to learn by doing. -- Dave Braunschweig (talk) 02:45, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What's the fastest way to fork content from other Wikimedia sites?

I'd like to bring all the linked content here into a single massive CCASA e-book for Instructors of English as a Foreign or Second Language. There has to be an easy way, right? --Charles Jeffrey Danoff (talk) 07:09, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Import is enabled from Wikiversity to Wikibooks [a 1][a 2]. You might need the help of a custodian [a 3]. Brett Johnston (talk) 07:52, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!! --Charles Jeffrey Danoff (talk) 07:59, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
