GLAM and Wikiversity

Every month a newsletter is published about the projects with Wikimedians and GLAMs, called This Month in GLAM. Problem logging in as User:Thekohser

Something strange is happening. (I am User:Thekohser here, in good standing on Wikiversity.) When I try to sign into my account, I get the notice: Login error Incorrect password or confirmation code entered. Please try again. Even if I try to reset my password via e-mail, I get the same notice using the temporary password. This phenomenon is what happened when at one time my account was inappropriately placed under a "Global lock", which was decided by an out-of-process discussion between two administrators on another Wikimedia wiki. A Wikiversity bureaucrat saw that the "lock" was inappropriate, and my User name was renamed, then named back again to "Thekohser", which had the nifty effect of undoing the global lock, at least as far as Wikiversity is concerned. Is it possible that the new WMF "single user authentication" thingy they are working on had re-instituted the inane global lock on my account? I ask if someone with the necessary tools could please look into this matter, and then notify me here (in public) and/or via private e-mail (my user name, at gmail). Note, this problem is also happening on (for example) Wikimedia Commons, which is another project where I am in good standing and the global lock was worked around. -- 2001:558:1400:10:79C9:1DF9:AC6D:32BB (discuss) 17:39, 15 May 2013 (UTC) (as, Thekohser)[reply]

I am not entirely familiar with this matter and it has been many years since this was last handled. The SUL finalization means that all users will be global users as has been planned for ages. We do not support local bureaucrats using what is effectively a bug to bypass a global lock. The appropriate venue for this discussion would be to file a request for unlock on m:SRG, where the stewards can look at the matter with some depth. Where i'm right?

Hello, excuse please, my english is very bad. I want to hold a lecture at Wikimania in Hongkong. Clear, in English. I prepare it in german Wikiversity. But the german text is needless. And its not very good to write english Sites in german Wikiversty. Can i do this here with my bad english? Recent software changes: (Not all changes will affect you.)

The latest version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf4) was added to non-Wikipedia wikis on May 13, and to the English Wikipedia (with a Wikidata software update) on May 20. It will be updated on all other Wikipedia sites on May 22. [1] [2]
A software update will perhaps result in temporary issues with images. Please report any problems you notice. [3]
MediaWiki recognizes links in twelve new schemes. Users can now link to SSH, XMPP and Bitcoin directly from wikicode. [4]
VisualEditor was added to all content namespaces on mediawiki.org on May 20. [5]
A new extension ("TemplateData") was added to all Wikipedia sites on May 20. It will allow a future version of VisualEditor to edit templates. [6]
New sites: Greek Wikivoyage and Venetian Wiktionary joined the Wikimedia family last week; the total number of project wikis is now 794. [7] [8]
The logo of 18 Wikipedias was changed to version 2.0 in a third group of updates. [9]
The UploadWizard on Commons now shows links to the old upload form in 55 languages (bug 33513). [10]

Future software changes

The next version of MediaWiki (version 1.22/wmf5) will be added to Wikimedia sites starting on May 27. [11]
An updated version of Notifications, with new features and fewer bugs, will be added to the English Wikipedia on May 23. [12]
The final version of the "single user login" (which allows people to use the same username on different Wikimedia wikis) is moved to August 2013. The software will automatically rename some usernames. [13]
A new discussion system for MediaWiki, called "Flow", is under development. Wikimedia designers need your help to inform other users, test the prototype and discuss the interface. [14].
The Wikimedia Foundation is hiring people to act as links between software developers and users for VisualEditor. [15]

Mobile wikiversity - collapse boxes not working

I have just started designing quiz questions using {{Collapse_top}} and {{Collapse_bottom}} to contain answers that are revealed on click/touch, similar to the examples on Test and Quiz. But on the mobile site they are not working. They are permanently expanded with no interactivity.

Can this be fixed? Please help!

Example pages documenting problem: Blood_pH (regular) works and Blood pH (mobile) does not. I was able to test it down to specific classes and found that mw-collapsible does not work on the mobile site. I am just guessing here, as I don't know enough to follow it any further, but according to Manual: Collapsible elements, this feature is implemented through jQuery. My guess is that jQuery is not automatically included on the mobile site. I don't know if there is a way it can be included on a page level or by condition. Actually jQuery is loaded for the mobile site, seems like site/project-specific JS and CSS are not though. This problem exists on English Wikipedia too. ~~I think there isn't anything that can be done about it here.~~ Looks like my cache wasn't clearing. Mobile uses different JS and CSS files, and at first looked like it was ignoring my changes to it. -- dark lama 17:22, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alas, the collapsible elements are not working on the mobile site again. I do think these elements are a great feature when they work, especially to add interactivity and limit scrolling required by mobile users... Can you explain what you changed last time or can you put it back to working again please? I thought the problem might be in somewhere like MediaWiki:Mobile.css but not sure. I'd also like to have a go at some css for the mobile site as some of my styles don't translate so well to small screens at present, and perhaps some responsive media queries - is it possible to load external css for specific wikiversity pages (i.e. override the current mobile css)? Wikiversity is begging for update

At upcoming Wikimania at Hong Kong a talk has been rejected by the Programme committee called "Wikiversity is begging for update". The abstract says, The presentation is targeting people who can improve the platform of unique educational service – Wikipedia. Author is a university assistant professor who is trying to integrate Wikiversity to his everyday work. He have suggestions how to improve the platform and make it more efficient for teaching and learning. Wikiversity today is not more than a e-textbook which is in urgent need to be updated. Major suggestions include: embedding of video, audio and pictures, creating classroom logbook and some other interactive features. Presentation would be interesting for Wiki developers, Wikiversity users, teachers of all kinds in all fields. (bold emphasis in this quote was added by me). – Does someone know why the talk was not admitted to Wikimania? I can't find the reasons for that. It is obvious that Wikiversity has way fallen behind other eduacation platforms and that multimedia support and a way to include video from YouTube as the platform for educational videos is badly needed if Wikiversity is to fulfill its mission. – Thx.--Aschmidt (discuss • contribs) 17:22, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like some commonly used math symbols are no longer available, e.g.,

This seems to be happening across other wikis too. Currently broken on Beta Wikiversity, English Wikinews, English Wikisource, and English Wikiquote. Currently working on English Wikibooks, English Wikipedia, and English Wiktionary. Hopefully this is something that will resolve itself in awhile. -- dark lama 11:52, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
