Are articles about books allowed on Wikiversity?

edit

Hi, I've edited before on Wikipedia and wanted to write an extended article about Socratic Logic by Peter Kreeft, but realised Wikiversity is the more appropriate place for it. However when I went to create the article, with the wiki-code from the link above, I got a warning message that it wasn't allowed and I'd be blocked if I tried again. So I was wondering, was it the formatting, the links to Wikipedia, my status as a new user on Wikiversity or a policy about book articles that was the problem? Also, more generally, are articles about books relevant to courses allowed on Wikiversity? Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 08:47, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Lukeisham: Welcome to Wikiversity! New users are limited to creating articles without external links, and also on creating new pages in general, to give them time to learn more about Wikiversity's structure and approach before creating too much content that might not be appropriate. I've pulled your contribution from the log and added it at Socratic Logic (textbook). Note that Wikiversity isn't intended to be a duplication of other Wikimedia projects. See What is Wikiversity? and What Wikiversity is not. We want to go beyond content and create learning resources that allow users to engage in learning (learn by doing). If you are creating this page to eventually move it back to Wikipedia, keep going as is. If you want it to remain here, think about how users will engage with the textbook or the subject of Socratic logic more generally. What can users do to understand and apply this content? -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 13:42, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Dave that answers my question. --Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 22:36, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How long does the New User restrictions last?

edit

How long do the New User restrictions last for? (Is it similar to Wikipedia?) - Time or number of edits? --Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 06:51, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Lukeisham: autoconfirmed status depends on both time and number of edits. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 13:02, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Dave. --Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 23:19, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Portal Template

edit

Where is the code for a blank template for a portal? --Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 00:45, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Lukeisham: I'm not sure there is one. If I were to create a new portal, I would probably start with a copy of Portal:Anthropology or something similar. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 01:28, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I just found it then! Make a portal, you should add it to the Help:Contents page. --Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 01:36, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How do I fix a "Template loop detected" error?

edit

I created an infobox and got a "Template loop detected". How do I fix that type of error? --Luke Isham (discusscontribs) 01:41, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Don't create a template that calls that template. Also, when you have an error, provide a link to the page generating the error so others can play along. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 02:10, 10 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
