WikiJournal of Medicine/Applications/Free Journal Network

WikiJournal User Group
Open access • Publication charge free • Public peer review • Wikipedia-integrated

WikiJournal User Group is a publishing group of open-access, free-to-publish, Wikipedia-integrated academic journals. <seo title=" Wikiversity Journal User Group, WikiJournal Free to publish, Open access, Open-access, Non-profit, online journal, Public peer review "/>

WikiJSci applied for the Free Journal Network back in 2019 (application). It was unsuccessful due to "the nonstandard nature of the editorial board and the relatively small amount of original research are definite concerns for the more traditional members" (FJN membership criteria).

WikiJMed FJN application
declined
AppliedNovember 2021
DeclinedJanuary 2022

Since WikiJMed has a >50% ratio of original research in 2020 and 2021, it may be better suited to this criterion. Therefore, below is the application.

Please find above the application of the WikiJournal of Medicine.
Our sister journal (WikiJournal of Science) previously applied in ":2019. It's application was decline since its output was mainly review articles.
The WikiJournal of Medicine currently publishes >50% original research articles (the remainder being reviews). We therefore believe that we comply with the soft criterion: 'dealing with original research as understood by the steering committee'.
WikiJMed is the flagship journal of the WikiJournal User Group (See Open Publishing award 2019 https://openpublishingawards.org/recipients/wikijournals/index.html). Its publications ethics have been audited by COPE and it is SCOPUS, Pubmed and DOAJ indexed (WoS application under consideration).
In addition to publishing original research articles, it also encourages submission of content that could be valuable to Wikipedia or other Wikimedia sister projects. Finally, its treats Wikipedia as a valid preprint source, and so articles initially written there are eligible for submission to the same peer review pipeline.

Response edit

The response from the FJN regarding WikiJournals is:

"After a thorough review by a solicited referee, we have decided not to accept this application. For better or worse, it is not recognized by us as an established scholarly journal. We agree strongly with the idea of innovation in the journal system, but this goes too far for us at present. I can imagine this situation changing in future, and encourage you to apply again no earlier than 2 years from now if you feel the case for acceptance has become stronger."

The situation is therefore similar to the previous WikiJSci application in that a greater portfolio and reputation would be needed to overcome how different the model currently is. T.Shafee(Evo﹠Evo)talk 23:20, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
