Heading casing

edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Youtube video and research article

edit

Hello,

Here is a youtube video on 'Episodic Memory' that I thought would be relevant to your book chapter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk2IFFzhlJM

I also found a relevant research article which has been cited over 1000 times: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/%28SICI%291098-1063%281998%298%3A3%3C198%3A%3AAID-HIPO2%3E3.0.CO%3B2-G

The article discusses the important role of the hippocampus in episodic memory relative to other types of memory. If you connect your google scholar with the wiley UC journal you should be able to gain access to the full article. If you don't know how to do this refer to the tutorial recordings.

The APA citation is:

Tulving, E., & Markowitsch, H. J. (1998). Episodic and declarative memory: Role of the hippocampus. Hippcampus, 28, 198-204. Doi: 10.1002/(SICI)1098-1063(1998)8:3<198::AID-HIPO2>3.0.CO;2-G

I hope this helps and good luck!

Peer-feedback

edit

Hey Tiahn! Don't forget that you can shrink in-text references that have 3 or more authors into (Author 1, et al., year). It will save you a lot of words! Looks like you have a good start into the topic! Good luck!--U3158984 (discusscontribs) 05:42, 15 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Title and sub-title

edit
  1. Good
  2. Address previous comments, including about heading casing
  3. A section should contain either 0 or 2+ sub-sections - avoid having sections which contain 1 sub-section.

User page

edit
  1. Created, with description about self and link to book chapter
  2. Used effectively

Social contribution

edit
  1. 2 claimed contributions
  2. Add direct links to evidence. To do this: View the page history, select the version of the page before and after your contributions, click "compare selected revisions", and then use this website address as a direct link to evidence for listing on your user page. For more info, see Making and summarising social contributions.

Section headings

edit
  1. Underdeveloped 2-level heading structure; use 0 or 2+ sub-headings per section
  2. Avoid providing too much background/generic material. Instead briefly summarise background concepts and provide wiki links to further information. Then focus most of the content on directly answering the core question posed by the chapter sub-title.

Key points

edit
  1. Overview - expand material about the relationship between EM and planning.
  2. Use APA style for citations.
  3. Remove or reduce the background info about EM. Briefly summarise and provide links to related Wikiversity or Wikipedia material. Expand the section on "The role of episodic memory in planning".
  4. Conclusion - Expand about "The relationship between episodic memory and planning is the episodic cognition system."
  5. Include in-text interwiki links for the first mention of key terms to relevant Wikipedia articles.
  6. Consider including more examples/case studies.
  7. Consider embedding one quiz question per major section rather than having one longer quiz towards the end.

Image

edit
  1. Provided, with an APA style caption
  2. Provided, with caption - but use APA style
  3. Consider increasing image size from default
  4. Consider enhancing figure captions to help connect the image more strongly to key points being made in the text
  5. Cite each figure at least once in the main text.

References

edit
  1. Good.
  2. For full APA style:
    1. Use correct capitalisation
    2. Use correct volume number

Resources

edit
  1. See also
    1. Very good
  2. External links
    1. The link is behind a paywall - provide links that the general public can access
    2. Provide more detail/description about the link

'What happens when you remove the Hippocampus?' is a handy little video about the hippocampus and the impact it has on memory when removed. Might be a good addition to external links. --U3176966 (discusscontribs) 11:17, 20 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Chapter review and feedback

edit

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via UCLearn Canvas, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this chapter does not adequately address the question. The section directly addressing the question is less than 160 words  .
  2. This chapter is well under the maximum word count.
  3. For additional feedback, see comments below and these copyedits.
  1. There is too much general theoretical material. Instead, summarise and link to further information, to allow this chapter to focus on the specific topic (i.e., the sub-title question). The chapter starts address the topic in the section: "How does episodic memory relate to planning?".
  2. The initial description of EM lacks a fundamental aspect that is relevant to planning - that it is time-structured autobiographic memory.
  3. There is no theory coverage about planning or about EM and planning.
  1. There is no research coverage about planning or about EM and planning.
  2. There is an overemphasis on historical theory and underemphasis on contemporary research directly related to the question.
  3. When describing important research findings, consider including a bit more detail about the methodology and indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  4. Greater emphasis on major reviews and meta-analyses would be helpful.
  1. Written expression
    1. The quality of written expression is generally good.
    2. Avoid one sentence paragraphs. A paragraph should typically consist of three to five sentences.
    3. Use third person perspective, rather than first person (e.g., "we") or second person (e.g., "you") perspective.
    4. Some sentences are overly long; consider splitting them into shorter, separate sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. See earlier comments about heading casing.
    2. The chapter uses a basic, 2-level structure.
  3. Learning features
    1. Good use of interwiki links and embedded links to other book chapters.
    2. Embedding interwiki links links to other book chapters would help to integrate this chapter into the broader book project.
    3. Basic use of images.
    4. No use of tables.
    5. Basic use of feature boxes.
    6. Good use of quizzes.
    7. The quiz questions could be more effective as learning prompts by being embedded as single questions within each corresponding section rather than being presented as a set of questions at the end.
    8. No use of case studies or examples.
  4. Spelling
    1. Use Australian spelling (e.g., hypothesize vs. hypothesise; behavior vs. behaviour; fulfillment vs. fulfilment).
  5. Proofreading
    1. Remove unnecessary capitalisation (e.g., Episodic Memory -> episodic memory).
  6. APA style
    1. Use APA style for Figure captions. See example.
    2. Citations use correct APA style.
    3. References are not in full APA style. For example:
      1. Check and correct use of capitalisation.
      2. Check and correct use of italicisation.
      3. See new doi format.
  1. 3 logged, useful, social contributions with direct links to evidence

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Canvas site. Written feedback is provided below, plus see the general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener.

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this is a basic presentation.
  2. This presentation makes use of simple tools.
  1. Add and narrate an Overview slide (e.g., with focus questions), to help orientate the viewer about what will be covered.
  2. The topic should not be: "What is episodic memory and what is the role of EM in planning?" but instead just "What role does episodic memory play in planning?". Whilst a brief description of EM is appropriate, there is no need to dwell on this. Instead the bulk of the presentation should be dedicated to the theory, research, and application for the single question: "What role does episodic memory play in planning?".
  3. Unnecessary coverage of semantic memory (not directly related to topic).
  4. Consider adding more examples or even a case study to help bring the topic to life.
  5. Well paced.
  6. What are the practical take-home message(s) that we can use to help improve our everyday lives?
  1. Well placed.
  2. Consider using greater intonation to enhance listener interest and engagement.
  3. Some of the font size should be larger to make it easier to read.
  4. The visual communication is supplemented by images.
  1. The chapter title but not the sub-title are used in the video title - the latter would help to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  2. The chapter title and sub-title are used on the opening slide - this helps to clearly convey the purpose of the presentation.
  3. Audio recording quality was OK - probably an on-board microphone was used because there is some white noise. Consider using an external microphone.
  4. Visual display quality was basic.
  5. Image sources and their copyright status are not provided.
  6. A copyright license for the presentation is provided.
  7. A link to the book chapter is provided.
  8. A link from the book chapter is provided.
  9. A written description of the presentation is provided.
