Heading casing edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Chapter review and feedback

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall edit

  1. Overall, this is a reasonable, basic chapter which could be improved by drilling more deeply into the central topic - emotional implications and applications of the BH. This could be achieved by abbreviating background info about the BH, BH and health (the BH and stress part is helpful), environmental preferences, conservation attitudes, etc. and spending more time explaining theory and research about BH and emotion (and different types of emotion). ART is more about the cognitive benefits of exposure to nature. SRT (Stress Recovery Theory) would be more relevant to the current chapter. Crucially, the Conclusion doesn't even mention emotion  .
  2. For more feedback see these copyedits and the comments below.
  3. Feel free to make ongoing changes to the chapter if you wish to address any of these comments or make other improvements.

Theory edit

  1. The chapter focuses on describing the BH and then its connection to health, stress, environment preference, and conservation attitudes. However, this doesn't sufficiently address the topic, which is about BH effects on emotion and how this can be applied to improving our lives.
  2. Abbreviate the general theoretical material and provide references and links to further information. This would allow more space to apply the theories to the specific topic in more detail.
  3. The most obvious missing theory is Motivation and emotion/Book/2016/Stress recovery theoryStress Recovery Theory.
  4. Examples or case studies would be helpful.

Research edit

  1. Several potentially relevant research studies are cited, but the chapter could be strengthened by highlighting and focusing on the studies about nature exposure and emotion.
  2. Some statements are unreferenced (e.g., see the [factual?] tags)
  3. When describing important research studies, provide some indication of the nature of the method.
  4. When discussing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.

Written expression edit

  1. Written expression
    1. For academic writing in psychology, such as this book chapter, write in third person rather than first (e.g., avoid "I', "we", "our") or second (e.g., "you", "your" etc.) person perspective.
    2. Some paragraphs are overly long. Paragraphs should communicate a single key idea in about three to five sentences.
  2. Structure and headings
    1. Avoid sections with only one sub-section. A section should have no sub-sections or at least two sub-sections.
    2. Each section should start with at least one introductory paragraph before branching into sub-sections.
  3. Layout
    1. Tables and Figures should be referred to in the main text.
    2. Add bullet-points for See also and External links.
  4. Integration with other chapters
    1. Limited integration with other relevant chapters - e.g,. see Category:Motivation and emotion/Book/Nature
  5. Learning features
    1. Some use of interwiki links to relevant Wikipedia articles - more could be added.
    2. Quiz questions are used effectively to encourage reader engagement.
  6. Spelling
    1. Use Australian spelling (some general examples are hypothesize -> hypothesise; behavior -> behaviour).
    2. Spelling could be improved - see the [spelling?] tags.
  7. Grammar and proofreading
    1. The grammar of some sentences could be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags).
    2. Check and correct the use of abbreviations (such as "e.g.," and "i.e.,").
    3. Check and correct consistency of capitalisation e.g, biophilia hypothesis vs. Biophilia Hypothesis
  8. APA style
    1. Use APA style for table and figure captions.
    2. Check and correct the use of APA style for direct quotes.
    3. The reference list is not in full APA style.
    4. The APA style for the reference list is very good; remove issue numbers for paginated journals.
    5. subjects -> participants
