References edit

Hi, I've just had a look at your page and you have made a great start! I did notice that your references were not APA formatted and a reference was half complete, I have edited your page and fixed these issues. Have a look at the UC website and you will see there are referencing guides there to help, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more progress.AGH BMW (discusscontribs) 10:03, 22 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Frank, Here's a great referencing website for the table referencing for your page :) http://libguides.newcastle.edu.au/content.php?pid=113807&sid=1208571

Page name edit

Change your heading please :) U3084402 (discusscontribs) 08:23, 8 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Possible useful reference edit

Hi

I saw this journal article and thought it might be relevant for your topic.

What Motivates Children's Behavior and Emotion? Joint Effects of Perceived Control and Autonomy in the Academic Domain. It's in Journal of Personality and Social Psychology October 1, 1993 and available via UC Library (or through google scholar http://scholar.google.com.au/scholar?hl=en&q=What+Motivates+Children%27s+Behavior+and+Emotion%3F+Joint+Effects+of+Perceived+Control+and+Autonomy+in+the+Academic+Domain&btnG=&as_sdt=1%2C5&as_sdtp=).

I'm doing something similar (but with emotion), so I'll post more if I come across them :)CFD (discusscontribs) 06:31, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Heading casing edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Self-efficacy theory edit

Hi I noticed you want to write about self-efficacy theory, so here is an article by Albert Bandura that could be quiet helpful. --U3081027 (discusscontribs) 02:55, 23 October 2014 (UTC) http://zh9bf5sp6t.scholar.serialssolutions.com/?sid=google&auinit=A&aulast=Bandura&atitle=Self-efficacy:+toward+a+unifying+theory+of+behavioral+change.&id=doi:10.1037/0033-295X.84.2.191&title=Psychological+review&volume=84&issue=2&date=1977&spage=191&issn=0033-295XReply

APA style captions for images and tables edit

I recommend using APA style captions i.e., Figure 1, Figure 2 etc. for all images, graphs etc. and Table 1, Table 2 etc. for all tables. The caption text should not be in italics. For more detail and examples, see http://libguides.newcastle.edu.au/content.php?pid=113807&sid=1208571 -- Jtneill - Talk - c 10:40, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Changes edit

I have made some small changes to spelling etc. I have also added in some colour and changed the size of one picture as it was hard to read. Also edited some of your referencing. U3081461 (discusscontribs) 01:27, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Multimedia feedback

The accompanying multimedia presentation has been marked according to the marking criteria. Marks are available via the unit's Moodle site. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below. If you would like further clarification about the marking or feedback, contact the unit convener. If you wish to dispute the marks, see the suggested marking dispute process.

Overall edit

  1. Overall, a decent effort but this presentation could be improved by clearer communication of ideas and more integration of theory and research

Structure and content edit

  1. The use of an example made for an interesting presentation, but arguably it was over-used and detracted, for example, from a broader self-help emphasis of the book chapter/multimedia – e.g., what are the take-home messages for self-efficacy and motivation more generally?

Communication edit

  1. The presentation had a good pace and made good use of slides, but as text was placed above images it made it difficult to read.
  2. Use of an Overview and Conclusion slide at the beginning and end of the presentation could help to communicate the structure of the presentation and the take-home messages.

Production quality edit

  1. the sound quality was adequate, and the presentation made use of basic tools. For improvement, The images could be of higher quality, and references must be included
  2. Image attributions for slides were not provided, thus this presentation appears likely to have violated copyright law. Courtney.Bruce (discusscontribs) 03:58, 23 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Chapter review and feedback

This chapter has been reviewed according to the marking criteria. Written feedback is provided below, plus there is a general feedback page. Please also check the chapter's page history to check for editing changes made whilst reviewing through the chapter. Responses to this feedback can be made by starting a new section below and/or contacting the reviewer. Chapter marks will be available later via Moodle, along with social contribution marks and feedback. Keep an eye on Announcements.

Overall edit

  1. This chapter needs a major overhaul to adequately address the topic. There is far too much focus on I-E motivation and SDT theory and far too little focus on the relationship between self-efficacy and motivation. The quality of written expression is also very problematic. For more feedback, see my copyedits and comments below.

Theory edit

  1. The case study example was not clearly linked to self-efficacy; it is perhaps not an everyday example that most people can relate to; consider using other examples.
  2. Much of the chapter focuses on intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and self-determination theory, with no mention of how this relates the topic "Self-efficacy and motivation"; the focus should instead be on self-efficacy, thus all of this unrelated content should be removed.

Research edit

  1. There is very little coverage of self-efficacy and motivation research.
  2. Some meta-analyses are referred to, but no effect sizes are reported.
  3. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.

Written expression edit

  1. The quality of written expression needs to be improved - it is currently not acceptable as professional quality writing.
    1. Avoid directional referencing e.g., "As previously mentioned"
    2. Some paragraphs were overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
    3. Obtaining (earlier) comments on a chapter plan and/or chapter draft could have helped to improve the chapter.
  2. Learning features
    1. Some links to Wikipedia and/or Wikiversity articles were added as external links - these should be changed to interwiki links
    2. A quiz was added, but needed to focus more on self-efficacy and motivation.
  3. Spelling, grammar and proofreading
    1. Grammar, in particular, was problematic - see the [grammar?] tags - many sentences were not grammatically correct.
    2. Check use of ownership apostrophes e.g., years vs. year's
    3. Use Australian spelling e.g., organizing -> organising
  4. APA style
    1. Check use of APA style for numbers (e.g., use words for under 10, and numbers for 10 and over)
    2. For in-text citations, use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
    3. There is an over-reliance on the Reeve (2009) textbook as a citation
    4. For the reference list, remove issue numbers for seriated journals.
