Talk:Motivation and emotion/Book/2014/Risk perception and emotion

Colour edit

I recommend using default colours for headings and backgrounds to maximise accessibility for those with visual impairment. e.g., check out Wikipedia articles. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:29, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Feedback edit

Hi there,

I like your choice of colours on your book chapter, maybe think about putting some boxes or text without colour to break it up a little bit so readers don't get too confused. I edited some of your text also, you had the word definition and emotion used a number of times so i changed the repeated words for you. Good luck with the rest of your chapter :) Chernayy (discusscontribs) 05:18, 24 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Overall edit

Overall, this is a well structured presentation.

Structure and content edit

The structure is quite good. It may have been useful to introduce theories earlier in the presentation. Research and theory are incorporated nicely throughout. A clear effort has been made to focus on the important information from the chapter, and to provide an overview rather than reciting the whole chapter. The presentation begins quite abruptly. An overview slide could have been useful. The concluding slide provided a nice ending.

Communication edit

Ideas are communicated effectively through audio and visuals. The voice over is well-paced, with engaging expression. The slides are quite good. Some slides include too much information - try to be brief and highlight only the important points to re-enforce the voice-over. The inclusion of images could also be useful. Try to avoid reading directly from slides.

Production quality edit

Basic production tools are used nicely to deliver this presentation. The audio quality is good. The visuals are clear. A link back to the book chapter is not provided. Copyright license is not cited.

Overall edit

  1. Overall, this is a reasonable chapter that could be improved by providing more detailed theory and research about the role of emotion in risk perception and by rewriting grammatically incorrect sentences. For more feedback, see my copyedits and comments below.

Theory edit

  1. The chapter struggles somewhat with establishing clear definitions of the target constructs.
  2. A number of potentially relevant theories are discussed, but this could be improved by providing more detail about the theoretical correspondence between emotion and risk perception.

Research edit

  1. Some relevant research studies are discussed, but these could be described in more detail.
  2. Some statements were unreferenced - see the [factual?] tags
  3. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.

Written expression edit

  1. Written expression
    1. The Overview could be expanded to provide more detail about the theories and research that will be covered.
    2. Some of the bullet-points should be rewritten into full paragraph format.
    3. The quality of written expression could be improved (e.g., where clarification templates have been added to the page).
    4. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
  2. Layout
    1. Use Level 2 headings, followed by Level 3 headings etc.
    2. Remove colours from headings
    3. Tables and/or Figures were not used.
  3. Learning features
    1. The text could become more interactive by including interwiki links.
    2. Quiz questions are used to encourage reader engagement.
  4. Spelling
    1. Use Australian spelling (e.g., hypothesize -> hypothesise)
  5. Grammar and proofreading
    1. The grammar of many sentences needs to be improved (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags)
    2. Check and correct the use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs. individuals')
  6. APA style
    1. Add APA style captions to tables and figures.
    2. Check/correct APA style for in-text citations
    3. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
    4. et al -> et al.
    5. Apply the hanging indent once, to all references, rather than to each reference separately
    6. The reference list is not in full APA style.
