Helpful reference

edit

Hey

I stumbled across your topic and I am very interested in seeing how your chapter pans out. This topic kinda hits close to home (not because of me) so it would be interested to see what you find out. This being said, I did find an article that may be useful to you in terms of your research. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0272735898000129

Also, im not sure what your plans are in terms of structure for your chapter but it would be neat if you were able to provide information on the resistance to change their habits. The from that discuss therapeutic methods in relation to that? Just an idea.

best of luck, i look forward to reading it Cheers --CazaF (discusscontribs) 00:43, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I found an interesting basic reference which might be of use for your overview: http://web.a.ebscohost.com/ehost/detail/detail?vid=4&sid=b21b55e5-77a9-4785-8406-67e5986de011%40sessionmgr4002&hid=4204&bdata=#db=a9h&AN=97956248. Here's the citation as well: Campbell, K., & Peebles, R. (2014). Eating Disorders in Children and Adolescents: State of the Art Review. Pediatrics, 134(3), 582-592. doi:10.1542/peds.2014-0194

Look forward to reading the end result!

Article about assessing motivation to change in eating disorders.

edit

Hey, looks like a interesting topic! looking forward to reading it when you're done. I found an article which reviews the ways we can measure motivation to change in eating disorder patients. Not sure if it's the sort of thing you'd be interested in, but thought it might be worth sharing it with you! http://zh9bf5sp6t.search.serialssolutions.com/?ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&ctx_enc=info%3Aofi%2Fenc%3AUTF-8&rfr_id=info:sid/summon.serialssolutions.com&rft_val_fmt=info:ofi/fmt:kev:mtx:journal&rft.genre=article&rft.atitle=Assessing+motivation+to+change+in+eating+disorders%3A+a+systematic+review&rft.jtitle=Journal+of+eating+disorders&rft.au=Hoetzel%2C+Katrin&rft.au=von+Brachel%2C+Ruth&rft.au=Schlossmacher%2C+Lena&rft.au=Vocks%2C+Silja&rft.date=2013&rft.eissn=2050-2974&rft.volume=1&rft.spage=38&rft_id=info:pmid/24999416&rft.externalDocID=24999416&paramdict=en-US

Heading casing

edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

i thought it might be interesting if you talked about maybe the new obsession with clean eating and bodybuilding and how they do not eat in a 'healthy way' even though its not classed as a eating disorder. also recently on the abc for mental health week they ha documentaries on people recovering form eating disorders and what struggles they face in trying to gain weight and how they must do so in order to be supported my treatment programs http://www.abc.net.au/tv/programs/diaries-of-a-broken-mind/ --Hynes08 (discusscontribs) 01:46, 21 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Article for change and a directional point

edit

I found this article and thought it might be of some use to you and your topic. I did notice that you have an older article that is on the same/similar topic, and thought as this one is more recent, it may have more, or even, recent/fresher research and conclusions in it: http://web.a.ebscohost.com.ezproxy.canberra.edu.au/ehost/detail/detail?vid=4&sid=5b122d4d-1df7-4b89-9802-4707db13d0b2%40sessionmgr4005&hid=4112&bdata=#db=pdh&AN=2013-15697-001

Also, in terms of the motivation to and for recovery, I was thinking maybe looking at how the support of family members and friends may impact, or could impact, on one's motivation to recovery? And if the amount of education and understanding the family and friends has regarding eating disorders and recovery, has an impact or effect on the individual's recovery and motivation to do so? Just some ideas. U3084341 (discusscontribs) 00:31, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

APA style captions for images and tables

edit

I recommend using APA style captions i.e., Figure 1, Figure 2 etc. for all images, graphs etc. and Table 1, Table 2 etc. for all tables. The caption text should not be in italics. For more detail and examples, see http://libguides.newcastle.edu.au/content.php?pid=113807&sid=1208571 -- Jtneill - Talk - c 10:17, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

General feedback

edit
  • Informative of how eating disorders can develop in regard to social expectations.
  • The chapter feels as though it has been written by a scholar who may not have experienced an eating disorder and is purely writing from knowledge of the subject rather then experience in the subject. This would be acceptable if more specific experiences were mentioned, however, it is more of a clinical ‘out of the book’ style of writing.
  • Self-determination theory discussed as apart of ED recovery. Well examined and informative to the reader.
  • Various eating disorders defined and discussed, however, each eating disorder is different as well as the people that experience them. Some of the information is very general and the person reading would certainly need to search for the more specific information, if required.
  • Clinical in its approach to giving advice / information. I think more examples would have been helpful. Given the prevalence of eating disorders a number of readers may have suffered.
  • Focused on statistics and less on experiences in the development of eating disorders

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this chapter clearly explains eating disorders and the role of motivation in recovery. Good use is made of the Wiki environment with regard to sections, boxes, tables, images, and a quiz. More use could be made of interwiki links. Closer proofreading would be beneficial (see my copyedits.
  1. Relevant theory is well-covered .
  1. Several relevant research studies are mentioned. The case study is helpful.
  2. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  3. When mentioning research, provide citations - see [factual?] tags for examples of where citations are needed.
  1. Written expression is generally clear and is easy and interesting to follow.
  2. The chapter was well-structured and balanced.
  3. The chapter benefited from a well developed Overview and Conclusion, including focus questions/learning objectives.
  4. Learning features
    1. Adding interwiki links would make the text more interactive.
  5. Spelling, grammar and proofreading
    1. Use Australian spelling e.g., hospitalization -> hospitalisation
    2. Semi-colons were overused
    3. Additional proofreading would be helpful.

ship apostrophes e.g., individuals -> individual's

  1. APA style
    1. In-text citations should be in alphabetical order e.g., swap Striegel-Moore & Bulik, 2007; Stice, South & Shaw, 2012
    2. Table captions go above the table
    3. Reference list APA style is very good. To improve: do not include issue numbers for seriated journals, and Doi -> doi

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this is a basic but effective and interesting presentation - well done.
  1. A well designed and organised presentation. The presentation provides good overall coverage of motivation behind eating disorder recovery and a helpful overview slide to orientate the reader to what will be covered within the presentation. Beginning the presentation by asking the audience to imagine what it would feel like to have an eating disorder was an excellent way to evoke emotion and engage the viewer. Good integration of theory and research and interchangeable explanation of Motivational Interviewing from a treatment aspect as well as linking to the Transtheoretical Model of change. Thank you for disclosing your own personal experience, this would have been beneficial to reflect upon for your own learning on the topic. In-text referencing to match the end of text reference list would improve the presentation.
  1. Communication is good and the visual presentation is basic yet effective. The presentation is generally well-paced, however, monotone/expressionless at times – this could be improved by changing the tone of voice and expressions used when reading the slides aloud. The use of illustrative examples and diagrams in the beginning of the presentation were effective – continuing to use these throughout subsequent slide could make the presentation more engaging. Changing the colour of the text used on slides and reducing the amount text on slides would also make it easier to read the content.
  1. The presentation had good picture and audio quality and demonstrated effective use of a basic production tool (brainshark) to communicate ideas. A creative commons license is provided. A link is provided to the book chapter however the link is not clickable and does not link to the exact book chapter. A link is provided from the book chapter to the presentation. A reference list was provided.
