Hi , you may have already read this one but I have referred to it in my chapter on motivation and collective action(although it isn't up yet). Theorists have suggested an empathy-altruism hypothesis which argues that empathetic concern for another person is what produces altruistic motivation (Batson, 2010). This concern generates an undesirable state of tension, and altruistic behaviours work to relieve this tension and satisfy a motivational need (Batson, 2010) Research suggests that benefits for the individual performing the empathy-induced motivational behaviours include; a reduction of cognitive tension and empathetic concern, avoidance of possible social and self-punishment by performing these behaviours, and seeking and gaining social and self-rewards (Batson, 2010). Therefore, theorists who support the empathy-altruism hypothesis suggest that the empathy-inducing motivational need enables the helper to reduce aversive cognitive arousal, avoid punishment and gain reward (Batson, 2010) (1Kristina1 (discusscontribs)

Overall, this is a good presentation. Well done!

The structure is good, with a nice flow throughout. Theory and research are well integrated. Introductory and concluding slides would have been useful. The introductory slide could have outlined the content and defined the question/s being answered.

The voice-over is well-paced, with appropriate expression and pauses between sentences and slides. The use of quotes etc. towards the beginning of the presentation is a good idea, however it would be better to also include some information on the slides to re-enforce the information provided by the voice-over. Try to use dot points instead of paragraphs. Use of illustrative examples would be beneficial.

Production tools used are simple but effective. Quality of audio is good (although, perhaps a little quiet). Quality of visuals is generally good. Some text is difficult to read due to the background pictures (e.g. 'Emotion' slide), and some background pictures were slightly pixelated. A link to the book chapter is provided.   1. Research is quite well covered, but could be described in more detail.
  2. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  3. Some statements were unreferenced - see the [factual?] tags
  1. Written expression is generally very good.
    1. The Conclusion could concentrate on some more practical take-home messages in response to the focus questions.
    2. The quality of written expression could be improved where clarification templates have been added to the page.
  2. Layout & learning features
    1. The heading structure, tables, and figures are all used effectively.
    2. Links to Wikipedia and/or Wikiversity articles were added as external links - these should be changed to interwiki links
  3. Spelling, grammar and proofreading were generally very good.
    1. Check/correct use of ownership apostrophes e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs. individuals'
    2. The grammar for some sentences could be improved - see the [grammar?] tags
  4. APA style
    1. Check/correct APA style for Table captions
    2. The reference list is not in full APA style.
