Relevant theory to add to your topic

edit

I found your article on this topic extremely interesting, as it followed similar themes from my own book chapter on abusive relationships and emotional dependency. The chapter was very well-written, particularly how you wrote about different theories that contribute to aggression in intimate relationships. However, I was slightly surprised that there was no mention of the Attachment Theory, which can distinctly demonstrate why and how people act a certain way in relationships. Possibly you could add this relevant theory into your research to explore more deeply into how people's childhood can explain aggression in romantic relationships. Overall, well done! -- User: LucyWilson546 10:52, 6 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Useful Articles

edit

Hey, I'm doing my chapter on cultural influences on aggression. In my research I came across this article http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs10896-013-9505-1 The study investigates physical aggression between partners in a cultural context. I thought it may be of some benefit to your research. The article can be accessed in full from the UC library databases. Hope you find it of some interest! Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this is a basic presentation which is significantly undermined by the key issue that the content of this presentation doesn't match with the agreed chapter title.
  1. Structure and content is problematic.
  2. Start the chapter by explaining the underlying research question
  3. It is unclear why this presentation incorporates such a major focus on SDT. It is not part of the designated topic and isn't covered in the book chapter.
  4. There is too little explanation of IPV - what is it?
  5. There is too little focus on IPV
  6. There was no Conclusion
  7. The presentation was based on two references by the same author; use a wider range of sources
  8. Examples could be useful.
  1. Communication is OK.
  2. Slides were basic, but clear
  3. Slide title font was too 'curly' (use a clearer font for readability/accessibility)
  4. Some slides didn't have titles (see 3:00 mins)
  5. Voice was clear.
  1. Production quality is basic, but sufficient.
    1. The video upload title lacks descriptive title.
    2. The video description is empty/doesn't not contain a link to the chapter.
    3. There were no image acknowledgements.

Heading casing

edit

FYI, the convention on Wikiversity is for lower-cased headings. For example, use:

==Cats and dogs==

rather than

==Cats and Dogs==

Overall

edit
  1. Overall, this would be a reasonable chapter if it is focused on addressing the agreed topic.
  2. The agreed topic was "Aggression in intimate relationships - How does aggression influence abusive behaviour in intimate relationships?" rather than "The Role of aggression in intimate partner violence:
    Various Antecedents, Influences and Interventions"
  3. For more feedback, see these copyedits and comments below.
  1. There is too much emphasis on defining aggression. Instead focus on explaining aggression in intimate partner violence.
  2. The chapter focuses on psychopathological contributions to IPV, rather than focusing on the role of aggression in IPV.
  1. Research specific to aggression in IPV is not really covered; most of the material is around the contribution of personality and other predictors of IPV.
  2. When describing important research findings, indicate the size of effects in addition to whether or not there was an effect or relationship.
  1. Written expression is below professional quality.
    1. Write in the third person rather than first person (e.g., "we")
    2. Some paragraphs are overly long. Each paragraph should communicate one key idea in three to five sentences.
    3. The quality of written expression could be improved (e.g., where clarification templates have been added to the page).
    4. Obtaining (earlier) comments on a chapter plan and/or chapter draft could have helped to improve the chapter.
    5. The Conclusion could be improved by providing some more concrete, take-home messages.
  2. Layout
    1. See earlier comments about heading casing
    2. Tables and/or Figures were not used.
  3. Learning features
    1. A link to the presentation wasn't provided - fixed.
    2. The text could become more interactive by including interwiki links.
    3. Some links to Wikipedia and/or Wikiversity articles were added as external links - these should be changed to interwiki links
  4. Grammar and proofreading
    1. Grammar is problematic (e.g., "Aggression, is behaviour " -> "Aggression is behaviour"
    2. Check and correct the use of ownership apostrophes (e.g., individuals vs. individual's vs. individuals')
    3. Use abbreviations such as "e.g." inside brackets and "for example" outside brackets
    4. The grammar of some sentences needs improvement (e.g., see the [grammar?] tags)
  5. APA style
    1. Use ampersand (&) inside brackets and "and" outside brackets.
    2. Check/correct APA style for in-text citations
    3. The reference list is not in full APA style.
