    1. This is a comprehensive treatise on the various needs theories and demonstrates a large breadth of knowledge (without much depth); however, does not specify any problem statement or approach the self-help objective of the assignment.
  1. Theory comments
    1. All major needs theories are discussed in turn.
    2. Chapter requires a more descriptive title than “Needs”.
    3. Social needs could be better differentiated from psychological needs as acquired through socialisation history as opposed to innate.
  1. Research comments
    1. Some good studies are used to demonstrate theory, such as Deci and Ryan’s rat study.
    2. Chapter relies mostly on textbooks rather than key peer-reviewed research articles.
  1. Written expression comments
    1. The quiz is a great learning feature and well-executed. The page is well-designed; the headings split the content into easily digestible chunks and the use of lists/bullet points highlight key concepts.
    2. The content is supported with the use of pertinent images and captions.
    3. APA style is essentially ignored; referencing should be author-date, not footnoting.
    4. Avoid contractions in formal writing (e.g., haven’t).
    5. In main text, ‘that is’ and ‘for example’ should be expressed in words.
    6. Full citations should be included in reference list, not in text.
    7. Some sentences need clarification: “It has also been commented on that modern society has become too materialistic and as such, there is potential for discordance between individual needs structures and the environment as our psychological needs have evolved place.”
    8. Chapter would have benefited from further proofreading (e.g., “Seld-determination”).

  1. Overall, this is a basic, narrated audio with bullet-point slides, providing a simple, but sufficient overview of needs.
  1. Structure is clear, but could benefit from identifying self-help focus questions
  2. No summary of take-home self-help messages? (There was 30 secs available in which to do this)  
  1. Consider including more examples
  2. Voice-over communication is personable (good), but probably could have benefitted from tighter scripting.
  1. Audio is a little distorted (microphone may have been too close)
  2. Slide text was mostly clear and easy to read
  3. Some slides contained too much detailed text, particularly later in the presentation
  4. Well done on providing attribution for SDT image use
