This is a very interesting chapter - particularly the section on anticipatory grief - but nothing prepares the individual for the actual death - would like to see some researcher delve into this. - Well done - Magnolia

Overall

  1. Overall comments
  1. Theory comments
    1. Discussion of of Bowlby’s theory of attachment as applied to grief and Kubler Ross’ stage theory of grief identifies limitations, demonstrating critical analysis.
    2. A variety of relevant theories are discussed in detail, including theories extending beyond the scope of material presented in the unit, while integrating them with important concepts that were covered, such as meaning, self-concept, and emotional regulation.
  1. Research comments
    1. Studies mentioned in text are well-described to illustrate key assertions and use further research to extend and support findings. Inclusion of effect size would strengthen this discussion.
    2. The list of references is expansive and relies on multiple recent findings.
    3. The self-help focus of the chapter was evident in the managing and overcoming grief section; the intervention studies used to address this component were quite insightful.
  1. Written expression comments
    1. The chapter started and ended well, with definitions of grief (differentiating between mourning, grief and bereavement) upfront, and a key points summary at the end.
    2. This chapter effectively utilised the additional features available in the wiki platform; the quote set up the topic from the very beginning, boxes assisted in highlighting the stages of grief, images (with poignant accompanying captions) were evocative and illustrated the key points beautifully, and the quiz was a great learning feature.
    3. There were minimal errors throughout; however, be careful with some word use (affect/effect, Inedibility->inevitability).
    4. APA style was in general expertly handled; however, try to avoid contractions.
