Naryana Murthy was born on August 20, 1946, in Sidlaghatta, India. He is a famous Indian businessman and an IT industrialist. He is the cofounder and former chairman of Infosys, which is one of the biggest IT companies in India, and he is informally known as father of Indian Information Technology revolution.[1] He was ranked as the 13th among CNBC’s 25 global business leaders and Fortune magazine has listed his name among other 12 greatest Entrepreneurs in 2012.[2][3] He is the recipient of two of the highest civilian awards in India, the Padma Vibhushan (2008) and the Padma Shri(2000). He was also honored by the french government by awarding him the Legion of honneur, which is also the highest civilian award in French.[4] He is well known for his business ethics and leadership skills.

Early life and education
editNaryana Murthy's full name is “Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy”. He was born in a lower middle class bhramin’s family in a small village named Sidlaghatta, Karnataka. Murhthy was brilliant and enthusiastic from his childhood days, he is really good at math and physics and always had a desire to gain knowledge in these field and that made him choose electrical engineering degree. Being born in poor family did not stop him becoming a successful person and achieving his dreams. His father was a school teacher and he has eight brothers and one sister. Since his father was a school teacher their financial situation was not that great. So, he studied in a government school and got a degree in electrical engineering from University of Mysore in 1967, and master degree in computer science from Indian Institute of technology,Kanpur in1969.
Family
editNaryana married to Sudha Murthy, who was the first women engineer to work at TATA and also the chairperson of Infosys. Sudha murthy believes in a philanthropist, so Narayana also believes in philanthropy. He is a kind, cooperative and manages his company well with his own good ethics and values. This couple has two children, named Akshata Murthy ,who was married to Rishi Sunak, and Rohan Murty married to Lakshmi Venu (2011-2015) and gave divorce to her and again he married to Aparna Krishnan ( in 2019).
Career
editNarayana Murthy began his career at Indian Institute of Technology, Ahmedabad in the position of chief system programmer. Later on, he started his own company which is famously known as Softronics in the year of 1975. On lack of good results in business, he later joined a company in Pune. In 1981, he started Infosys along with six other members, with the investment of $200(Rs.10,000), which was actually given by his wife Sudha Murthy.[6]For 21 years, from 1981 to 2002 , he worked as CEO and chief mentor of the company. Later he became chairman of the company from 2002 to 2006. Later in 2011, he became chairman Emeritus by dropping from the board.[7] After a few months, again he has to join Infosys on June 1, 2013 as Additional director and executive chairman. Under his influence, Infosys was entered into NASDQ in the year of 1999.[8]
He has served as a board member for HSBC and Unilever which are located in London, England. He also worked as an advisor for some institutes like Wharton school, Cornell University , Princeton and at the Graduate School of business of Stanford. He also served as the chairman of the Indian Institute of Management , Ahmedabad. He also served as the foreign member of the U.S National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.[9] He was the first Indian to win the Ernst and Young’s World Entrepreneur of the Year award.[10]
