I see a great deal of support and little opposition from our long term contributors to en-wv. @DannyS712: welcome as a new custodian,[1] we appreciate your continued contributions and thank you for supporting our project. --mikeu talk 02:19, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to nominate User:DannyS712 for custodianship. DannyS712 has been a Bureaucrat-appointed Curator for a month and a half now, and has made a significant effort to clean up our user interface, orphaned talk pages, empty categories, and vandalism. Moreover, DannyS712 has an extensive global activity history across hundreds of wiki projects with 100,000+ edits and has earned a trusted role on 23 other projects. The addition of custodian tools would allow DannyS712 to more actively support Wikiversity anti-vandalism efforts.     Among the tools that custodians have that I would use are the ability to block users and the ability to modify abuse filters. Short-term blocks for repeated vandalism prevent more damage to the project, and so do abuse filters. I acknowledge that abuse filters, if edited improperly, can create widespread problems, but am familiar with the extension and how to use it. Most filters here are private, so I would start be taking a look at what is already set up, and, if I see any possible improvements, test them using the batch interface or a log-only filter before escalating.     TonyBallioni, would you mind explaining why you believe that I am a hat collector? w:Wikipedia:Hat collecting defines hat collecting as "the process of gaining rights on Wikipedia (and other wikis) just to show off or to boost one's ego, rather than because you have any actual use for them." - do you believe that I have no actual use for custodian rights?     On every project where he has advanced rights he has used those rights. He is a admin on mediawiki.org where he is one of the most active admin. I can easily provide proof that he is using the rights he has on every projects. Now it's your turn to provide evidence to counter my claim.     No: I don’t think you have any use for them here that you couldn’t have without them, and I think your temperament is fundamentally unsuited for any position of trust on any Wikimedia project. I care about the culture of our projects, and prefer to see one of collaboration and work towards the common good. From you I have seen nothing but attempts to promote your own position cross-wiki. The most recent example of this is how you decided to subscribe anyone who expressed interest in something to a mailing list that promoted one of your own scripts without bothering to ask. This is just pure arrogance, and is an example to your general approach to Wikimedia. A sysop should not seek first to promote themselves, but rather to help the community.     If you believe that my goal was to promote myself, then I apologize for the misunderstanding. That was most definitely not my intention. As for the mailing list, my goal was to help the community, and thus wanted to inform others of a script that fulfilled a feature request (phab:T5525) from 2005. I also included a link to unsubscribe. My work on that script has been entirely to try and help. You talk about collaboration - is there anything you would like to collaborate on with me?     So that's what it is. You are just angry that he subscribed you to his newsletter without asking. FYI, GlobalWatchlist.js, the subject of the newsletter is closely related to Crosswatch. That's why he thought you and others might be interested. You were given a link to subscribe from the newsletter. Weren't you? I know what you are feeling right now. Some users also sent me and other users spam messages just because they thought I/we might be interested. For example, the newsletters of Wiki Loves Monuments Italy 2019 and Google Code-In 2019. I was given the same response as I am saying you to now. If you want to discuss about it, feel free to start an RFC as not only Danny but also others do this kind of thing.     No. That’s only one example, though it’s the most recent. I am very familiar with Danny. His method on en.wiki is to dive head first into things he is not familiar with and step on the toes of others (example of him explaining to one of the first oversighters the history of the term.) There he also has a habit of taking over any script that someone else made if they retired, rebundling it as his own. I am not familiar with his work on Wikiversity, but I’m extremely familiar with his work elsewhere, and he’s not someone I think should be given any degree of trust by a content project.
