editHi there, I was thinking of a few areas that might be worth investigating for your topic. You could look at the Optimum level of arousal for completing tasks and also maybe how self-handicapping increases motivation in some tasks. --Janed1987 (discuss • contribs) 10:00, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

editHello! Firstly did you realise that although your topic is to do with the motivation side of things it is in the emotion section? Just thought I would let you know in case it is different for you as the editor, computers are funny!
I would like to have a part of my chapter which touches on this area. Although I will be looking at it within Self Determination Theory. Do you mind if I link it to your chapter? --Bridgiedidge (discuss • contribs) 07:32, 26 October 2013 (UTC)
Oooo also have you thought about categorising uninteresting tasks? Maybe to do with intensity for example from tasks which are only slightly uninteresting through to tasks which are severely uninteresting? And to what extent/intensity of uninteresting do the motivational theorys work. Or tasks in different settings say work (could link back to my chapter), home (e.g someone who hates cooking but lives alone), exercise (e.g the type of person who has no interest in exercise at all) etc. Im not sure if this helps but hopefully it can prompt some ideas! --Bridgiedidge (discuss • contribs) 07:42, 26 October 2013 (UTC)

editHi Gerarde! In your overview I think you need to clearly set who the chapter is aimed at. I got a little confused whether it was how I could use this chapter for myself or whether I could use it to help other people engage in uninteresting tasks. Maybe by providing a summary statement for who it is targeted at and why would help with this?
Also in regard to the visual side of things, I think adding in some pictures and breaking up the text would really help the reader navigate their way through your chapter. I hope this is helpful? --Bridgiedidge (discuss • contribs) 22:57, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Applying SDT to uninteresting tasks
editHi there,
when I first look at your page I was curious what the SDT means!
some people may not know what the SDT means when they look at the table of contents in the beginning of your chapter.
I think you can edit the title like Applying Self-determination theory (SDT) to uninteresting tasks?
hope this helps
Hi. Thanks for the input. I've made the change as suggested and it does look better, thanks. GerardeC (discuss • contribs) 03:46, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
a few ideas
editHi there - good to see you're getting there with your chapter! obviously it's still a work in progress and you are going to get to the formatting part after the writing part...unlike me who tends to do everything the other way round. The big blocks of text are far too hard to look at let alone read. So be sure and make plenty of paragraphs to break it up.
You've done really well talking about the SDT, are there any others that relate to uninteresting tasks? I've just re-read the author guidelines and we're meant to not just focus on one theory, so be careful there.
Perhaps you can describe one or more of the studies in a text box, and break it down a little in to more easily digestible points? Another thing I picked up in the author guidelines was the emphasis on integrating the theory with the research. At present your page is reading a bit like a lit review describing the research, so while you are finishing it today(!!!) be sure and try to integrate what you have learned, and use some of your own voice to make some conclusions. Great intro, love the part about the teenager.I know this from experience - I own one ( ; - perhaps you could continue that theme throughout your chapter, and make up some ideas how you could get him off the xbox and cleaning his room or something.
Another thing you could think about is to create some link to some of the major terms in yr page in the text - such as SDT etc
If you need to copy/paste any formatting stuff when you get to that stage, I have quite a bit on my page (enjoyed that part!) so feel free to copy/paste any of the code. https://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Motivation_and_emotion/Book/2013/Motivation_and_vegetarianism Good luck getting finished! Hi Lynne, Thanks. I'm taking it onboard. Pictures and things will be the last part for the chapter, as I can't see it affecting my grade as much as an incomplete article. GerardeC (discuss • contribs) 00:36, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Ha! yes so true, I need to get cracking as well - how fast does the time go immediately before a deadline!Lynnmaree-27 (discuss • contribs) 01:25, 3 November 2013 (UTC) Me again! I snuck in and added a little pic to yr page - needed a break from writing! Just delete it if you don't want it Lynnmaree-27 (discuss • contribs) 11:57, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

OveralleditOverall, a good attempt. See comments below for feedback. The chapter covered several theories, and one in detail which was good to see. For future improvement, explain each theory in enough detail that the reader can grasp the concept (particularly CET). The chapter would also benefit from critical analysis of the theories. The chapter included some interesting research, and there was some evidence of critique which was lovely – keep working on this skill for each piece of research examined. For future improvement, it would be useful to examine a wider array of research. The chapter could benefit in future from work on the spelling and grammar/punctuation. It can be useful to have someone read over the assignment before submission. The learning features included were great, nice figures. For future improvement, try including some intext links or an interactive feature such as a quiz. Your APA style was solid, well done. Remember to include APA style for figures and to include DOI’s or web addresses for every reference. Great work! Courtney.reis (discuss •

OveralleditOverall, a great effort. See comments below for feedback The presentation covered the main points of the chapter, good job. There was a good coverage of motivational theory and the applications in a self help context. For future improvement, incorporate more of the research studies used in the chapter to add more balance. The presentation made good use of images and a creative power point, well done. The voice over was clear and well paced, though there was several “stutter” points – perhaps re record a clearer version. The quality of the presentation was sound, and it made effective use of basic tools. The audio quality was sound. Remember to include licensing info. Good effort! Courtney.reis (discuss • contribs) |
