Images

Yo Jen, so here is the 'syntax' needed for uploading images. You need to use either your own images or images from wiki commons, found at Wikimedia Commons and you just search for a photo that fits. When you get one, pop the file name in this format for photos on the right

RIGHT HAND SIDE

or this format for left hand side

LEFT HAND SIDE

note the numbers before the px is the size of the photo.

LEFT HAND SIDE

. hope this helps!! TomMarvoloRiddle (discusscontribs) 14:17, 3 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ideas?

edit

Hi there, I'm sure you have already thought of this, but I thought i'd put it on here just incase. You could talk about the role of performance vs mastery goals? And you may even be able to link some of the content to 'successful intelligence' theory, how you can make goals to play your strengths/downplaying your weaknesses. Hope this was of some help! --Janed1987 (discusscontribs) 09:38, 26 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your post Jen! I would love for you to link my page. I think there is quite an amount of interplay between our topics, so it would be great to keep in contact and support one another with our chapters. I am going to go ahead now and link your page! I hope this is okay :) --Jacki Ball (discusscontribs) 21:14, 22 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi there! you may already be aware of this, but the SMART model can be an interesting model to talk about when it comes to goal setting:) User:HayleyMuzza17 23 October 2013

Hi Jen, Found an article that may be of use to you, its called 'Goal setting and task performance'. I think its an interesting read, and could help you with further research:) Heres the link; Goal setting and task performance article Verity Foster-Greenwood (discusscontribs) 04:23, 25 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jen. One of my favourite quotes of all time is "Obstacles are things you see when you take your eyes off your goal". I think it is beautiful and really emphasises the power of having goals. Maybe you could use this as a foucs point in your chapter or a summary point of some key ideas sorrounding the power of having goals (summed up on pg 212 of the textbook). Hope this can be useful. --Bridgiedidge (discusscontribs) 00:59, 27 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Goal setting in sport

edit

Hi Jen, not sure if you will be covering goal setting and sporting achievements, but in my research into sporting achievements, I found that goal setting was quite often referenced as an important part of success. Specifically for Olympic athletes. I found this article: http://zh9bf5sp6t.scholar.serialssolutions.com/?sid=google&auinit=D&aulast=Burton&atitle=Goal+setting+styles:+examining+the+role+of+personality+factors+on+the+goal+practices+of+prospective+olympic+athletes.&title=Journal+of+sport+behavior&volume=36&issue=1&date=2013&spage=23&issn=0162-7341 that talks about different personality styles and how they impact goal setting on elite athletes. Good luck with the rest of your chapter TomMarvoloRiddle (discusscontribs) 04:48, 31 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Linking

edit

Hi Jen, The book chapter I'm doing is called Money and Happiness, and in that I've decided to include a section on goal setting (mainly related to financial goals) however I was wondering if I could link your chapter to mine? I feel like they could compliment each other nicely. In my research I found an article http://web.ebscohost.com.ezproxy1.canberra.edu.au/ehost/detail?vid=3&sid=15b16020-28a6-4b5d-85d1-e728601bd91f%40sessionmgr12&hid=28&bdata=#db=pdh&AN=2009-05862-008 which talks about goal setting and mental health. This isn't particularly useful to my book chapter but I thought maybe it would be for yours if you decide to discuss mental health and goal setting as a technique or something. Goodluck with your chapter! --U3068359 (discusscontribs) 05:43, 31 October 2013 (UTC)u3068359Reply

GOI

edit

Hi Jen, hope you are going well with your chapter! i noticed Dykman (1998) had a really great article on the goal orientation inventory which talks about measures of validation-seeking and growth-seeking as ensuring personality characteristics. thought this may be of interest to you, although you may have already touched on it! good luck! Self-Control

edit

Hi there, Just looking through your topic and thought, I might suggest that self-control/self regulation theories might tie in well with goal setting. Good luck !!! Saerah (discusscontribs)

Overall

edit

Overall, this is useful, balanced and applicable chapter, well done!

The chapter covered several relevant models which was nice to see. For future improvement, perhaps focus in greater depth on a smaller number of theories, and engage in critical analysis of the models examined

The chapter included some interesting research, and I particularly liked the use of “SMART” goals – I know from personal experiences the usefulness of this particular strategy. For future improvement, I would suggest reading as widely as possible - aim to stick to references within a 10 year period, and again to engage in critical analysis with the research.

The chapter was generally well written, good job.

The learning features included were great, for future improvement try including an interactive feature such as a quiz and some in text links. The APA style was solid, well done. Remember to include APA style for all figures and to use & instead of and in in text cites in parentheses. Great work! Courtney.reis (discusscontribs)

A great attempt, see feedback below for comments.

The presentation had fantastic coverage of the self help tips, well done. For future improvement and a more academic feel, include some more of the theoretical background and research.

The presentation was well paced. It made good use of a case study. For future improvement, include more images and eye catching slides to further engage the viewer. I felt like the presentation ended rather abruptly on point 8/10 of the tips and left out the conclusion. Was this a time factor?

The quality of the presentation was good, and made good use of basic tools. Remember to include licensing information and references. Good work! Courtney.reis (discusscontribs)
