Talk:Motivation and emotion/Book/2013/Experiential avoidance
Feedback
editHi there, just leaving some feedback as requested on Moodle. I agree that the text should be broken up a little more. Under Acceptance and Commitment therapy (which you list under treatment), perhaps you could list the stages as a table instead. I've included the formatting here and you can copy and paste the code from the edit page if you want to include it.
Stage | Description |
---|---|
First | Patient to stop suppressing any negative emotions and recognise that it is pointless |
Second | Let the patient know that their experiential avoidance is affecting their life |
Third | Create different circumstances that can allow the patient to accept their emotions and not suppress them anymore |
Fourth | Encourage the patient to decide what they value in their life |
Fifth | Tell the patient to stop controlling their negative emotions and accepts them as a part of life |
Sixth | Allow the patient to determine what they would like to do in the future based on their values and accepts the negative events as being in the past and a part of their life (Hayes et al, 1994) |

Hey, I'd recommend maybe adding a few images (if you can find any to do with your topic that is). Basically anything to break up the text a bit would be good as it's somewhat intimidating to see a big wall of text and nothing else. Other than that, great work!
Also, I just fixed your reference list as it wasn't quite APA format. You'll also need to look for the doi of a couple of the ones missing one, otherwise you can probably leave it or include a direct link to the file or say what website or database you accessed it from :) I think the only ones that are missing are the two ones by Hayes - Clarev (discuss • contribs) 10:29, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello, Your chapter is looking great! I am actually doing Acceptance and commitment therapy if you'd like to add my chapter as a reference to yours :)I also agree that perhaps adding some images would look great. U3065856 (discuss • contribs) 11:49, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Really good work. I'd recommend changing the formatting of the headings, at the moment you've got them set at being all a subheading of the very first one, even though there are several different headings. In the reference list I noticed that there is an article with more than 10 authors, according to APA if there are more than 8 authors you only have to include the first 6 then use et. al for the rest. Also don't forget to add a conclusion. --Caitlin Malicki (discuss • contribs) 11:56, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi there, Great job on your book chapter! I agree that you might need to find something to break up the paragraphs a little bit more as it is quite text heavy. Perhaps insert a few more pictures/graphs or even just some dot points or a few smaller paragraphs. All the best! U3037098

OveralleditA great attempt, see below for comments and feedback. The chapter lacked any theoretical coverage – for future improvement source out some models of why experiential avoidance occurs in the first place, i.e genetics etc.. The chapter clearly benefited from some good research, well done. It was nice to see some evidence of critical thinking, good job. Be careful of using terms such as “cause” and “prove” – unfortunately we can’t definitively prove anything in psychology – try demonstrates or supports. The chapter was generally well written, well done. There were some grammatical and punctuation issues, a thorough edit before submission can help this. The learning features included a figure and a table, good work. For future improvement, perhaps include an interactive feature such as a quiz and some in text links. The APA style was solid, good work, just remember to include APA style for figures and doi’s or web addresses for each reference, good jobCourtney.reis (discuss • contribs)

OveralleditOverall a good effort, well done! The presentation had good coverage of research and the self help applications, well done. For future improvement, include more of the theoretical background to provide more integration with research. The presentation made good use of powerpoint, good work. For future improvement perhaps include more images and/or a case study to make it more engaging for the viewer. 4= The quality of the presentation was sound, and it made good use of basic powerpoint, well done. The audio quality was a little fuzzy. Remember to include licensing information. Great effort! Courtney.reis (discuss • contribs) No comment |
