Missing Materials
editwhere are the course materials? this looks like a marketing page and, just like marketing materials, is devoid of any useful content. it uses 3rd party software that is difficult to understand with a slow, marketing-oriented website that is difficult to navigate. the fact that a potential student must post their name in order to get instructions regarding further action on their part creates a shroud of ambiguity and exclusivity, feels psychologically manipulative, and gives the impression that the instructor does not care about the education and well-being of the student, but about his own image, or some other equally trivial aspect of something similarly unimportant.
i believe this to be against the spirit of WikiMedia projects.

- You are correct. The author of this resource was blocked in 2013 for soliciting students. I've removed the author and sign-up references. Please feel free to make additional changes regarding any other concerns you have. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 04:16, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Renaming and possible split?
editHello. I have two possible suggestions. Speak Math Now was apparently made by a paid contributor in 2011. It is the only actual Algebra course in Wikiversity, consisting of three, maybe four years worth of math in its course description. Before most of the article got deleted, it seemed that this course also included Geometry. I suggest to split it into Algebra 1 and 2, or something similar to that.
Second of all, the name in particular is somewhat strange. "Speak Math Now!" has nothing to do with Algebra an I recommend it should be renamed. What are your thoughts?

- I believe the original title "Speak Math Now!" was a brand name for the original user's project. Since he's been banned, it would be better to rename the projectspace. I think splitting up the pages and renaming the pages based on the type of mathematics that is being taught on that specific page would be the best option. I haven't contributed actively to this space in recent times, so whatever valid change happens - I'm ok with it. —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 01:45, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- I fully support changing the name. --Guy vandegrift (discuss • contribs) 16:21, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- After looking through it, I would just suggest TNTing the entire thing MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 18:28, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- ...TNTing = deleting every page? —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 19:03, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- Actually, after consideration, I don't know why I said that. Yes I meant deleting every page, but a lot of this is fine, especially the rewritten quizzes and lessons, so I retract that statement. This should be changed, this should be changed and all pages under it and linking to it should be changed, I would think MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 19:37, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- I must admit I thought that take was bizarre as well. There is certainly a number of valuable educational content within this project. But pages like the syllabus & pages relating to the solicitation that took place about a decade ago can be deleted. Once a common ground has been reached, I can go ahead and delete those said pages. —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 20:09, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- Here's what I can find think all should be changed.
- Rename Speak Math Now! to Algebra 1 or something similar to that. All of the courses that currently exist are Algebra 1 courses.
- Delete the course syllabus
- Create an Algebra 2 project (or something that is post-geometry but pre-college algebra, whatever variation other people may want. I will be referring the following to algebra 1 and 2 from now on, though)
- Change "weeks" to individual lessons stand-alone and change the "semester 1" heading. People should be suggested learn at their own pace.
- Articles like Week 9 in math equations should be not written with text and "/" but with actual math notations. I don't know if wikiversity has the templates for this but without wikification it becomes confusing.
- For example, 4b8/16x2a3 could mean either (4b8/16x)2a3 or (4b8/16x)2a3
- Perhaps don't include logarithms section; it doesn't actually help anywhere in Algebra 1 and should be saved till algebra two(in my personal opinion)
- Finally, finish the rest of Algebra 1 and start Algebra 2. Algebra 1 is missing things like quadratics and some other stuff that I can't be bothered to grab my eighth grade textbook that I accidentally stole. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 23:12, 26 March 2022 (UTC)
- I have no problem with any of the stated changes. For the math equations, you could use the
<math></math>
tags. For fractions, it would be<math>\tfrac{1}{2}</math>
to turn it into . Maybe this would help? —Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 16:21, 27 March 2022 (UTC)- OK! I will get some of the changes started. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 19:57, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- Done with requesting deletion on logarithms and course syllabus and changing names. The only thing I haven't yet done is algebra 2, which is already a course which I didn't know previously. I also didn't change the fractions because I have no idea how you meant for the fractions to be placed due to ambiguity. Could you do this? Thanks, MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 20:22, 27 March 2022 (UTC)
- @MrMeAndMrMe: Instead of deleting logarithms, I think it should be moved. Do you know of any place it could go? --Guy vandegrift (discuss • contribs) 05:09, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Guy vandegrift That's fair, we can move it to Algebra II because that is where I suggested to put that in the first place but didn't think or something. MrMeAndMrMeLet's talk 05:12, 28 March 2022 (UTC)
