At the Duchess of Devonshire's 2 July 1897 Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball, M. de Souza Correa — João Arthur Souza Corrêa, the Brazilian Minister Plenipotentiary[1] — sat at Table 7 in the first seating for supper.

Alexander Bassano's portrait (left) of Chevalier de Souza Corrêa as a Knight Templar, XIV Century in costume is photogravure #22 in the album presented to the Duchess of Devonshire and now in the National Portrait Gallery.[2] The printing on the portrait says, "The Chevalier de Souza Corrêa as a Knight Templar XIV Century."[3]

A caricature portrait (above right) of the Chevalier de Souza Corrêa by Leslie Ward ("Spy") appeared in the 18 August 1898 issue of Vanity Fair, as Number 722 in the "Men of the Day" series.[4]
