1898 November 11, Friday, the funeral of Edith, Countess of Cromer took place in Bournemouth, with 3000 people at the graveside service, and in London, with a large and fashionable group in attendance there as well. Many members of the extended Baring family were present.

The Hon. John Baring was Baron Revelstoke just two weeks after the ball. A caricature portrait (right) of Lord Revelstoke by Leslie Ward ("Spy") appeared in the 11 August 1898 issue of Vanity Fair, as Number 698 in its "Statesmen" series,[10] giving a sense of what he looked like about the time of the ball.

edit- Evelyn, Earl Cromer is not reported to have been at the ball. By October 1898, they had returned to Cairo after being in England, because "his presence in Cairo was deemed very important for reasons of State," and she went, "well knowing the seriousness of her condition, which no medical skill could any longer alleviate."[17]
