1897 July 2, Captain Mann Thomson attended the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball.

1900 July 6, Friday, the London Evening Standard reports that Captain W. D. Mann-Thomson embarked on the Persia:

THE WAR IN SOUTH AFRICA. TO-DAY'S EMBARKATIONS. Captain W. D. Mann-Thomson, of the Royal Horse Guards, will command the reinforcement for the Household Cavalry Composite Regiment, which will embark in the Persia, at the Royal Albert Dock, to-day. Captain Mann-Thomson will have command of all the troops on board, the latter including a strong draft for the Gloucestershire Regiment, as well as about 200 horses.[7]

1901 July 25, William Dixon Mann-Thomson and Violet Hemsley Duncan married.[8] Their wedding was reported in local papers, with an extensive list of gifts.[9]

1903 February 4, Miss Jeanie Mann Thomson and Captain Ivo D. W. Heneage married.[10]

At the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball, Mann Thomson (at 321), probably William Dixon Mann Thomson, was dressed as a Yeoman in the Queen Elizabeth procession.[11]

  • "Four yeomen held a canopy over Her Majesty's head. Their uniforms were exactly copied from the picture of the Field of the Cloth of Gold at Hampton Court. These were the Duke of Roxburghe, the Hon. Dudley Marjoribanks, Captain Maunde Thompson [sic], and Mr. Rose attired in scarlet and black."[12]:32, Col. 3c
  • He was one of the "six halberdiers attending on the Queen, their costumes copied from Holbein's picture at Hampton Court."[13]:5, Col. 7a

  1. John Mann Thomson is listed in the 1881 Scotland census as "Iron Master (Emp. 6000 Lds)."[14] His wife Jessie J. Thomson is there, as are children Jessie B. Thomson (14) and John M. Thomson (10 months) and 7 servants, all women. Both John Mann Thomson and Jessie J. Thomson were born in Glasgow.[4]
  2. John Mann Thomson is listed in the 1891 Scotland census as "Iron Master." This wife Jessie Mann Thomson is there, as are children Jane Baird Mann Thomson, Wm Dixon Mann Thomson, John Mann Thomson, and 10 servants, one male.
  3. John Mann Thomson died in Mantone, France, on 12 March 1899.[1]
