1897 July 2, Mr. I. Malcolm, M.P., (#692 on the list of people who were present) attended the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball.

1902 June 30, Jeanne Marie Langtry and Ian Zachary Malcolm married.[2]

At the Duchess of Devonshire's fancy-dress ball, Ian Malcolm was dressed as a "Courtier, time of Henry VIII.," wearing "white and black broché tunic and trunks, with black velvet robe trimmed fur; black tights, shoes, order, hat, and plumes."[3]:34, Col. 3a

A caricature portrait (right) of Ian Malcolm, called North West Suffolk, by Leslie Ward ("Spy"), was published in the 12 May 1898 issue of Vanity Fair, as Number 694 in its "Statesmen" series,[4] giving a sense of how he looked at about the time of the ball out of costume.
