Questions and Notes
edit- Jagatjit Singh was not, technically, Maharaja in 1897, but we cannot know that the newspaper report was accurate with respect to the distinction between Raja and Maharaja. Jagatjit Singh was Raja of Kapurthala in 1897 and was apparently in England in 1897, as he was awarded the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee Medal in Gold as well as the Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India (KCSI) in 1897. The Diamond Jubilee Medal "was awarded to members of the Royal Family and the court, guests and dignitaries present at the celebrations of Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee and to selected soldiers and sailors who formed the jubilee parade in London."[3] A total of 73 Diamond Jubilee Medals in Gold were awarded to members of the royal family and, apparently, other royals as well.[3]
- Before the Diamond Jubilee and his being awarded the KCSI, his official name with titles was this:
- His Highness Farzand-i-Dilband Rasikh-al-Iqtidad-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia, Raja-i-Rajagan, Raja Jagatjit Singh Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Kapurthala
- After the Diamond Jubilee and the KCSI, his official name with titles was this:
- His Highness Farzand-i-Dilband Rasikh-al-Iqtidad-i-Daulat-i-Inglishia, Raja-i-Rajagan, Raja Sir Jagatjit Singh Sahib Bahadur, Raja of Kapurthala, KCSI[1]
