The society was founded in 1767 and possibly started the oldest Agricultural Show in England. The society ran these shows from town to town in the Lancashire area. The society is led by a council made of a diverse group of people ranging from farming experts to business professionals. The Young Farmers' and NFU Club are also recognized in the Council.
