No self-appointments
editWikiversity has Wikiversity:What Wikiversity is not. As you can see, Wikiversity is not a place to confer titles. "Staff" is a term to be used carefully at Wikiversity. At Wikiversity we have a support staff that is not self-appointed. All Wikiversity participants who are not on the "support staff" are just "participants" and they do not have titles. You can describe what your interests are and you plans for developing Wikiversity learning resources, but do not give yourself titles. "Administrators" has a special meaning within Wikimedia Foundation wiki projects: it is one of the terms used for those wiki participants who have the ability to delete wiki webpages (at Wikiversity we use the term "custodian"). Please do not call yourself an administrator. Wikiversity does not allow self-appointments to positions such as "head of department". Wikiversity departments are content development projects where participants collaborate to create, organize and develop learning resources in a particular topic area. Wikiversity does allow "participant lists" where editors who share common interests can describe their editing goals. "Applications": in general, Wikiversity allows everyone to participate in the editing of any page. If you want to experiment with restrictions on who can edit a few Wikiversity pages, please take a look at Wikiversity:Page protection templates. For any page where you want to restrict editing, please find a way of making a clear statement of why you are trying to restrict editing. --JWS 13:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
