can also be installed in the Linux Beta. It runs most popular developer tools. The file apps tool will make it easier to share the folders for moving files between chrome operating system host and Linux container which is used to backup and restore.[1]

Linux Operating System

Linux is an operating system which works on the principle of open source.Open source concept means source code is available for the user. The Linux Licensing system is known as GNU GPL, though you can have the licence and share with others. Linux was developed by Finland student Linus Torvalds in 1991.1 His intention was to create a free operating system which is available to all. Including the source code. He developed the Linux Kernel with the help of others. Since then there came different Variants of Linux. Common variants include Ubuntu, Red Hat, Debian, Suse, Fedora etc. Ubuntu is widely popular among Linux community. It is designed for computers, smart phone and network servers. It is developed by UK based company called Canonical Ltd based on the principles of Open Source. Latest version of Ubuntu is 20.04. Fedora is developed by Red Hat which is a substury of IBM. Linux is a time sharing multitasking, mutliuser operating system like Windows. Linux operating system is bundled with number of softwares, like open office, Gimp, GCC, different databases, compilers, etc. Linux is a portable operating system developed based on the concepts of open source. Linux kernel and application programs can be installed in any kind of hardware platforms.[2]

Development of Linux

Linux architecture

In 1986 Linus (Benedict) Torvalds programmed his own for a floppy controller. He learnt about hardware programming and started a project to code his own Terminal Emulator at the hardware level with the more function than Minux, which was an available terminal emulator program at that time. Then he coded his own device drivers with data and file access. He released Freax on September 1991 which was an earlier version of Linux and later renamed to Linux. It includes GCC from Richard Stallman which is a GNU C compiler. Linux profits basically from GNU C compiler, thats why its called GNU/ Linux. Then he provided the source for to the public through his news group and asked for suggestions among interested people and programmers. He selected the picture "Tux the Penguin" was selected by him because he was a bitted by a penguin in the Finish zoo. He was so impressed by the self-well animal so he gave the picture of the penguin as the Guidance figure. Initially Linux doesn't contain any Graphic User Interface. It was developed by Matthias Ettrich. In 2001 there was 10 million for Linux which was strengthened by IT industry as an alternative operating system.[3]

Linux operating system & Windows operating system

edit

A example of Chromebook

Both Linux and Windows are operating systems. Linux is open source and its free to use. Where as Windows is not open source and not free to use. Linux is more secure and efficient than WIndows operating system. In Windows different types of drives are used to store the file. Where as Linux uses a tree like structure to store the files. Linux file system is case-sensitive and Windows is not, that means you can store files with the same name in the same directory with different cases in Windows. Windows uses backward slash ("\ as directory separators where as linux uses forward slash "/" as directory separators. In Windows administrator controls all the administrative activities. Where as in Linux super user know as root controls all the administrative activities. MyDocuments is the home directory for Windows whereas Linux uses /home/user as the home directory. As linux is an open source so that we can customize Linux according to our requirement by making changes to the source code, Whereas Windows cannot change the source code. Both Windows and Linux are multiuser, multitasking time sharing operating systems. In current Windows, the latest version is Windows 10, whereas Linux has different flavors like Fedora, RedHat, Ubuntu, Kali Linux, and etc. Among these versions of Linux Fedora and Ubuntu are more popular. In Linux 3 types of user accounts are permitted, which are root user (Administrator) , regular user, service user. Windows 4 types of users are allowed, Administrator, Standard, Child, and Guest. Even though Linux is more efficient and secure, in marketshare 92% of world PCs run on Windows. Where as only 1% uses Linux. It is hard to use Linux than Windows. So the home users tend to use Windows for their household PCs. As Linux is very secure, cooperate users tend to use Linux as their preferred OS.[4]
