Mainly a political club with a Liberal outlook consisting of gentlemen of high intelligence from Oxford and Cambridge Universities who devoted themselves primarily to humanitarian causes. One of the founding causes for the club was the reform of Oxford and Cambridge Universities from a church based education system to a non-secular scholarly system of higher education.

Notes

Essays in Reform and Questions for a Reformed Parliament was written by several of the club members (and others) and was dubbed the club manifesto.
