Awake O sleeper and rise from the dead Eph 5:14

1000 Songs

Text

edit
  “Wake up, sleeper,
  rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

The text from Ephesians 5:14 is suggested to be a quoted portion from an early Christian hymn. Based on the text, the Hymn was most likely sung at somebody’s baptism. The text demonstrates an example of the literary device, climax. The use of such devices in the early Christian Hymns shows the influence of the various forms of biblical Hebrew poetry, such as the Book of Psalms of the Old Testament.

Music

The text has been set to music by many composers, such as the band Cool Hand Luke and the version that appears in the album, Glory Revealed II, composed by Jason Crabb, Jonathan Shelton and Bear Rinehard.

Wake up, oh sleeper, rise from the dead Christ will shine on you Wake up, oh sleeper, rise from the dead Christ will shine on you

I know you've been sleeping in your bed of sin Life's passing by while you've been sleeping in I know you've been running, running from His grace Why don't you know that you can't get away

Wake up, oh sleeper, rise from the dead Christ will shine on you Wake up, oh sleeper, rise from the dead Christ will shine on you

Now you've been busy sleeping in the shadows of your own Wasting the gift of your life Now the sun is rising, the shadows are gone Get up, wake up, for you've been justified

The prodigal is waking up The wayward child is waking up The down and out is waking up The prisoner is waking up The lonely soul is waking up The Pharisee is waking up I hope the church is waking up Everybody's waking up

Wake up, oh sleeper, rise from the dead Christ will shine on you Wake up, oh sleeper, rise from the dead Christ will shine on you
