editDevice cylindrical plate 3 pulleys suspended weights
nominally 30 40 50 grams
This lab was performed using a device with a thick circular plate and three pulleys around the edge of the circle.
Each pulley was connected to a suspended weight (see figure.) 1
Each pulley was connected to a suspended weight (see figure). 7
Each pulley was connected to a suspended weight. (See figure.) 2
300 grams was positioned on a hanger at 0 degrees otd
400 and 500 grams were positioned at 92 and 232 degrees, respectively
The hanger's mass was 30 grams, so corresponding masses were 350, 450, and 550, respectively.
Data was colleced ingofr by rotating eacy pully aournd the rim of the circle.
In a separate project, students solved the 345 right triangle on hte board. The descrepency caused by ignoring the hanger's weight was intentionally introduced into the design of activity in order to explore error analysis.
