Wikiversity:Organization/Examples/Arduino
For a discussion on the Colloquium, today, this was written:
- I just pressed Random in our sidebar. I came to Arduino Sketch Merge Tutorial. Without careful review, this seems to be a nice learning exercise. But as part of what overall resource? How would someone find this?
- The page is in Category:Arduino. Looking there, I find the Arduino page which shows a set of linked subpages. This might belong with them. However, I also found Arduino Sketch Merge. These two pages were created by the same user, on the same day. The simpler name was created later. This was part of a Howard Community College project. I could grumble a little about how the professors there don't monitor what their students do and reliably guide them and clean up the messes created ... but this is what we have, real humans, often with little experience, working on Wikiversity, creating content, with few clear guidelines and not a lot of supervision.
- First of all, by contributions history, the simpler name is a later version. The earlier version is an orphan, not linked anywhere.
- Arduino Sketch Merge is linked from Operate. That's a horrible page title, it only has meaning within a context, and it is not linked from anywhere. But other pages are subpages of Operate. So I could move Arduino Sketch Merge to become a subpage of Operate. However, Operate appears to be proper as a subpage of Arduino, and I'm finding loose ends all over the place. For example, on Arduino there is a link to [Basics for Tribot That is external link format used to point to Arduino/Basics, which was deleted on instructor request. The custodian will normally check for "What links here," before deleting, but did not find this one because it wasn't a proper wikilink. I'm finding a bit too much to handle in one session at the moment, so I'm not starting yet. When this can of worms is handled, we will have resources just that much more organized. I'll request the page histories of Arduino Sketch Merge and the Tutorial be history-merged. The student used the Tutorial page to draft and then copied the content to the simpler page name, instead of Moving it. I'm deleting the bad link, that's all for right now, until I see the overall picture more clearly. Moves create a little bit of a mess to clean up, so I prefer to keep the number of them down to conserve custodian time. --Abd (discuss • contribs) 14:53, 5 August 2014 (UTC)
