Learning trails

edit

Learning trails are permuted, annotated and enhanced collections of learning resources that may serve the needs of a special topic or goal or that may link to internal or external resources of a specific type or from certain sources in order to allow a different learning experience. Tutors can design their own learning experiences and learn to appreciate that the way to learn something can make a difference for the learner.

The term "learning trail" is also used for a past learning experience of a learner who leaves a trail (a collection of material that may be useful for others, for instance annotated lecture notes). The term is used here in a stricter sense, putting more emphasis on the intentional preparation of the material for others, but the author of a learning trail may have prepared the trail as a result of his own studies, possibly following a learning by doing philosophy.

A learning trail should usually refer to other resource types and connect them to form a new learning experience.
