What is the United States Congress?

The United States Constitution establishes three branches of government, the first is the Legislative branch, called Congress. It is bicameral, meaning it is divided into two houses, the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Organization at a glance

The House of Representatives (usually shortened to just "House") and the Senate each make their own rules governing procedure and each have their own responsibilities outlined in the Constitution and responsibilities both houses share.
