Course Objectives

  • Primary Objectives- By the next class period students will be able to:
    • Learn and derive the equations for motion in two dimension, also called projectile motion
    • Develop solid and systematic problem solving skills
    • Lay a foundation that is likely to be used in motion in two dimension


  • Sub Objectives- The objectives will require that students be able to:
    • Master knowledge of motion in one dimension equation
    • Develop knowledge of vectors to transform equations of motion in one dimension to equations of two dimensions.
    • Use algebra to solve for unkowns specifically quadratic equation


  • Difficulties- Students may have difficulty:
    • Making the correct assumptions
    • Remembering equations of motion
    • Choosing the correct angle when working with components of vectors
    • Interpreting results


  • Real-World Contexts- There are many ways that students can use this material in the real-world, such as:
    • Given the initial velocity, it is possible to determine the exact angle so that a basketball player make the ball go through the hoop.
    • It is possible to determine the minumum velocity of a stream of water that hits a target at distance 'd' away, provided that you are given the angle of launch.
