Medical microbiology

Medical Microbiology is concerned with how the human body interacts with bacteria, viruses, fungi and prions. Topics include the roles of non-pathogenic bacteria in normal health and disease processes that involve pathogenic micro-organisms or an abnormal response of the body to micro-organisms. The Department of Medical Microbiology works in close cooperation with the more general Microbiology Department.

One of the cholera incidence maps used to trace the source of infections to drinking water during the London cholera epidemic of 1854.
