- Professional - I'm an EdTech Innovation Strategist at the American Medical Program at Sackler School of Medicine, Tel Aviv University and a PhD candidate at the School of Education at TAU, focusing on Technology and Education (specifically researching Wikidata as a learning platform). I have also designed and lead Wiki-Med, the 1st for-credit course at Sackler dedicated to Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects since 2013. In 2015 I opened a second academic elective course at TAU about Wikipedia & Wikidata that is available to all undergraduate students on campus from all disciplines.
- Publishing - So far, I've only published my MA thesis and an academic paper about my Wiki-Med course, that was published in the journal "Education and Information Technologies" by Springer Nature (Sigalov, S. E., & Nachmias, R. (2017). Wikipedia as a platform for impactful learning: A new course model in higher education. Education and Information Technologies, 22(6), 2959-2979). Am currently working on 4 more papers as part of my PhD and Wiki research.
- Open - I have been part of the Wikimedia movement since 2011, and have focused mainly on outreach, governance, capacity building and mentorship. In addition to being the chairperson for the Wikipedia & Education User Group, I'm also the chairperson for WPMed Foundation. More details about my Wiki experience could be found here. - Professional - I work in educational technology at TECFA, a research and teaching unit in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Geneva. Holding a PhD in political science, I have been working in this field since 1988 and I participated in various innovative pedagogical and technological projects. I started my career in psychology and educational sciences as a systems engineer, developer and lecturer, turned into a senior lecturer in 2003 and became associated professor in 2015. My long-term R&D interests focus on the design of technologies-enhanced rich pedagogies. My current interests include digital design and fabrication in education, student monitoring, e-learning competence and informal learning in developing countries. I teach educational information and communication systems, digital design and fabrication, foundations of educational technology, and research methodology.
- Publishing - I spend an important part of my time exploring new technologies and their use in education and restrict research and publications to a strict minimum, i.e. per year, about 1 journal article plus a few reviewed conference papers. I produced two closed-source textbooks for online universities. I have reviewing experience for conferences, a few journal articles and some research proposals. I never was part of an editing board.
- Open - I am the founder and main contributor of EduTechWiki, a bilingual resource kit for educational technology teaching and research. These Mediawikis have several purposes, e.g. note taking for literature reviews, preparation of lecture notes and other manuals, writing-to-learn activities for students, or learning management and project documentation. The wikis by a diverse population around world. The two wikis include over 3000 article pages, have about 1.5M visitors per year, and most pages have a top 20 Google search rank. Most contributors are locals and increasingly so since necessary anti-spam measures discourage casual participation. I consider myself a MediaWiki power user and somewhat document my experience. I also produced several Wikibooks with my students and co-workers, e.g. a a social science research manual (in french) and several manuals on "making" (laser cutting, embroidery, 3D printing) and ICT (JavaScript, Flash, XML,...).
