Talk:What Matters
Analysis Checklist
editCreate a self assessment instrument that asks the student to rate each topic according to its importance and the degree to which the student has achieved the goal or fulfilled the need. Then have the student address the most important topics that are not adequately addressed.--Lbeaumont 03:20, 18 December 2011 (UTC)
Reference Outline
editUse this outline as a rough guideline for each section:
- What is it? Define and describe the goal.
- Why is it important? Motivate the section.
- How do I get there? What steps can the student take to attain the goal?
- Simplify—Reveal the essence. Remove the obvious and add the meaningful.
- Cite Sources
- Suggest further reading
- Add Soul – Engage the students’ emotions to motivate toward the goal.
Also, refer the the student in second person (e.g. "you") when practical.
Of course content is more important than format and modify this outline to most clearly present each topic. --Lbeaumont 17:15, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
Suggesting Further Reading Suggestions
editI would like to include approximately two carefully selected books to recommend for further reading under each topic. If you know of any “must read” book directly relevant to some subtopic in this course, please add your suggestion here. I’ll take a look at it and add those that seem most helpful. Thanks! --Lbeaumont 15:42, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
What I thought while reading...
editHere's my thought process when seeing this page (may it help someone, or not):
- reading title and wondering if a dynamic aspect will be included (like: in this moment, since priorities always shift, be it experience, manipulation by others, mood, ...)
- OK: found answered in intro with: "How does what matters most change as your needs are met, as you gain experience, and as you grow and mature?"
continuing with intro, ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat + Identi.ca 00:45, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- found the TOC list too large (had to scroll to see it completely), perhaps there could be a smaller one (before it)? so I see major headers with one glance? ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat + Identi.ca 00:47, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- Is there a way to adjust the TOC so the user opens only one level at a time?--Lbeaumont 13:00, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- seems only chapter 8: "Spend Your Time on What Matters" awakes interest in me (I just looked at TOC, did not read the content of each chapter), ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat + Identi.ca 00:48, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- opened assessment link in new tab, but did not look
- "small log book": smiling, had a time when I had one always with me (story). reflection is important, indeed
- seeing long list of literature: I wondered if there could be a short 1-2 sentence summary, why one thinks someone else should take the time to read it. OK, one can also google it up, but it gives me so far the impression: "Oh no, looks like one of those sites" :-( ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat + Identi.ca 00:54, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- I have annotated most titles. --Lbeaumont 14:44, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Erkan, a belated greeting and acknowledgement of your topic. This was the most interesting out of 8.
- Pleased to note you are still active here. Janosabel (discuss • contribs) 17:29, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
I think each section should be split into its own lesson, like What matters/Love, What matters/Family, What matters/Peace, What matters/Needs, etc. -- darklama 16:10, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- Done! I hope you like it! --Lbeaumont 13:56, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Possible New Topics
editConsider adding topics on Flow and Enlightenment. A possible reference for enlightenment is the book "How Enlightenment changes your brain" by Andres Newberg and Mark Robert Waldman. --Lbeaumont (discuss • contribs) 19:02, 14 January 2016 (UTC)
- These topics were added on 1/17/2016 by --Lbeaumont (discuss • contribs) 15:38, 17 January 2016 (UTC)
Intimacy
editConsider adding a topic on Intimacy. Thanks! --Lbeaumont (discuss • contribs) 13:02, 23 November 2018 (UTC)
True beliefs
editAdd a section on true beliefs. Perhaps this can be included in an existing section. Thanks
NYCNVC Feeling and Needs Sheet
editThe NYCNVC Feelings and needs sheet, includes a useful list of "Needs and Values". It may be helpful to compare that list with the materials in this course. --Lbeaumont (discuss • contribs) 14:21, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
