Only first trimester

edit

The page said "By abortions here we mean induced abortion in the first trimester." But this is not what the term abortion means, and medical life-saving procedures can potentially be needed after first trimester. A law that bans abortion can allow life-saving abortion as an exception, but the ban-caused-deaths that would otherwise be avoided may still be non-zero since the decision making will contain not only medical and moral element but also the legal element, so there is still going to be an increased risk of prosecution; the medical doctor may believe in good faith that abortion is the best option to protect mother but may be uncertain whether they can prove as much should a legal case arise, leading to delay of medical procedures until a point where it may be too late.

One solution is to create a separate section "Abortion should be legal in first trimester"; there already are multiple section other than "Abortion should be legal". Dan Polansky (discusscontribs) 06:56, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Dan Polansky Separating the third-trimester arguments seems like a sensible idea, good call! I just restored the text about the third trimester but on the new section. Cheers! Sophivorus (discusscontribs) 12:11, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
Makes sense, thanks. As you have noticed, I already went ahead and separated out the first trimester as it seemed to make so much obvious sense. --Dan Polansky (discusscontribs) 13:58, 15 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

IVF babies

edit

The Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are children. Do we need another Wikidebate or can this be worked into this debate? thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (discusscontribs) 23:36, 23 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Ottawahitech Hi! I think it can be worked into this debate, by adding a new section titled "Abortion of frozen embryos should be legal" or similar. However, at least one good argument is needed to start a new section, and ideally one for and another against. Sophivorus (discusscontribs) 13:15, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think the issue of "ivf babies" is not a matter of abortion, but more a matter of what are the responsibilities of those who provide the facilities that store frozen embryos. I have not looked into this, but I wonder who pays for maintenance costs, are the costs one-time or periodical. If the latter what happens to embryos of those who are paying, and in the former, how long is the facility going to maintain embryos who have not been implanted. I'm embryos are babies who must pay for their maintenance?
.. and more, I am sure Ottawahitech (discusscontribs) 00:44, 11 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
