Talk:Psycholinguistics/Acquisition of More than One Language
Suggestions for classmate's chapter
editThe information was presented in a very easily understandable manner and in a complexity that is easily understandable by readers of all strengths. However in the first half of the chapter there were almost no in text citations and this could lead a reader to believe that the interpretations were your own. I understand that this section was an introduction and the information is fairly straightforward but just to avoid any conflict I would suggest adding citations wherever possible. There were a few sentences that were a bit long and vague but after reading them over a few times I was able to understand the message.
For the “Is there an Innate Component for learning a second Language?” section I am not sure if you intend on adding in information later or if you just forgot to add in the information, but that section is completely missing. If you have the information already then adding it should not be too much of a problem and will make your chapter a little more complete. I do believe that this section is quite an interesting component to your chapter so I do look forward to the information as it ties in the concept of whether humans are innately capable of multiple languages.
I enjoyed reading the section on emotional responses within Bilingualism but i felt that it did not really fit in the overall section of multiple language acquisition, but related more to another topic such as behavioural differences in bilinguals. I felt that the discussion/conclusion section was a bit weak as it did not wrap up or summarise the preceding information. It did state some interesting points but in order to end on a stronger note I believe a little summary would go a long way to help the reader remember the key points. Another small suggestion would be to add some graphics such as graphs or pictures. Graphics help strengthen the information already presented and gives the reader a bit of relief from the overwhelming text.
Overall the layout if great, with a logical flow but just a small criticism would be the length of each section. It seems that there are a great deal of sections which is wonderful but certain sections seem to have only one or two sentences in them and the information from certain sections seem to overlap in my opinion, so I would suggest amalgamating certain section to make a broader and more convincing paragraph (eg instead of having a small paragraph between bilingualism and SLA, I would suggest adding that paragraph into the language differentiation subheading. Also within the “socioculturists approach” section I believe you should just make one heading such as social factors of bilingualism rather than different subheading for additive, subtractive and codeswitching).
In summary I think you did a great job and I enjoyed reading your chapter as well as learning some interesting facts. A slight revision and few adjustments will help make this chapter an even better resource.
