The axis angle of rotation is a result of Euler's \htmladdnormallink{theorem}{http://planetphysics.us/encyclopedia/Formula.html} of rotation and it describes a rotation of a three dimensional \htmladdnormallink{rigid body}{http://planetphysics.us/encyclopedia/RigidBody.html} by a \htmladdnormallink{unit vector}{http://planetphysics.us/encyclopedia/PureState.html} \begin{equation}

and an angle of rotation, $ \alpha $.
