Talk:Physics equations

Welcome to the Physics equations talk page. The above Russian saying translates literally as repetition is the mother of learning. This sounds foreign an much more awkward than practice makes perfect. Russian grammar discourages the words is, the, and of, permitting a stronger statement of the same idea, also in three words. Most would agree that rote learning is the lowest form of education. Physics equations emphasizes rote learning, not in an effort to emphasize rote learning, but because it is easy to incorporate into a wiki. Instructors should view Physics equations as a subset of a good course. The easy part of teaching is showing how equations can be used to solve textbook-type problems. The hard part involves internalization of laws, the creation and use of approximations, experimental investigation, historical context, all which are required when applying physics to "real life". By allowing this wiki to teach the easy part of physics, a good teacher can devote more effort to the hard part. --guyvan52 (discusscontribs) 22:06, 8 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

 • These are the equations for a first two semester college course in either an algebra/trigonometry or calculus based physics.
 • Concepts typically restricted to a calculus based course are so identified.
 • These equations follow the open source textbook openstax Physics, an algebra/trigonometry based textbook. By writing material in this wiki, openstax Physics can also be used in a calculus based course.
 • The purpose of this resource is to develop wikiquizzes, as well as a list of equations (plus a few activities) required for solving them. This is far less ambitious than actually writing a textbook.
 • The equations presented below are hidden in order to avoid clutter. They are situated next to wikiquizzes designed to teach the concepts. These equations will appear in at least two places: (1) here, adjacent to the wikiquizzes, and (2) as a formula sheet available to students as they take exams. They may also appear in lecture notes to be developed later, as well as in reviews. It is the multiple use of these equations that explains why they were written as the templates physeq1, physeq2, physeqC, and physeqM.--guyvan52 (discusscontribs) 22:06, 8 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

It is hoped that by combining openstax Physics with Physics equations (or adopting other open source materials) we can save every student who takes a college physics course approximately $100. --guyvan52 (discusscontribs) 22:06, 8 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
