In order to cool a 1000 megawatt reactor, 476,500 gallons of water need to be pumped through the system. In some cases, the water is deposited back into the lake, river, or ocean that it came from. The low-level of radioactivity that would now be in this water could prove harmful to humans, aquatic life, and plants. Patricia D B (talk) 04:26, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
