Cute Kitten

edit

OK, so how does NI describe, model, or explain the origins of kitten cuteness? --Lbeaumont (discusscontribs) 02:06, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Holistic, Holism, and New Thought

edit

The table may be a bit harsh on Holism, or may be confusing legitimate systems thinking with various "New Thought" approaches that are too quick to declare "all is one".

For example, computer weather models work rather well. They take primarily a “holistic” approach, yet include enough granularity to forecast my local weather in hourly time increments. I have not studied these models in any depth, but I imagine they combine a broad range of scales in the model, drawing from holistic and reductionist points of view. I expect any open-minded problem solver to draw from tools throughout the range, reductionist through holist, to suit the problem at hand. With this understanding, the characterization: "Favors ‘wholeness’ by ignoring or completely integrating the presence of distinguishing boundaries and natural space" seems harsh. --Lbeaumont (discusscontribs) 02:12, 9 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
